Guest guest
Hi All, Saw Dr. Aram Manoukian at Woods University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ yesterday. He does not think I have CP. He thinks it is a combo of spaastic colon, stomach problems and costocondritis and other muscle problems on my left side. This would be a BLESSING if that is true!!!!! But he is doing an ERCP onme this Tuesday. I'm terrified of this procedure due to what some of you have experienced. Especially if there is not any CP, couln't this give me CP??? Your thoughts? Guest guest
Have you had an MRCP? I cant recall. An ERCP is truly the only way to diagnose cp once and for all. It may give you a mild pancreatic attack but many people have had them done will no ill side affects what so ever. It really all depends on what he chooses to do once he is in there. If he does a manometry, sphinterotomy or places a stent all those can aggrivate the pancreas but that does not necessarily lead to chronic panrcreatitis. Guest guest
Thanks . I did have a MRCP which came out normal, except for a 4mm cyst. He wants to check that out and the ducts. I just heard of people getting CP from this. PLUS, I have had so many endoscopies, Colonoscopies in the past 6 months, that I think I have built up a tolerance to the anestesia (sp?) Last week I had a colonoscopy and started coming around while he was still in there! If I was to come round while something was down my throat, I'd panic. I mean, REALLY PANIC. I have a phobia about that sort of thing. YIKES! Eileen > > Have you had an MRCP? I cant recall. An ERCP is truly the only way to > diagnose cp once and for all. Guest guest
>My doctors wont do the ERCP due to the 5% chance ofit causing an acute attack, so they are scheduling an MRCP. I had to MRIs before and had horrible experiences. I had such panic attacks so he prescribed Atavan. I hope that helps. I have already been diagnosed with CP they are just trying to find out why now. -Annette >
Guest guest
Eileen, I haven't read what others have said, but I do want to comment. An ERCP wouldn't give you chronic pancreatitis. There is some risk of having a pancreatitis attack as a result of an ERCP, but even if you did have an attack, this wouldn't automatically cause it to become " chronic " .......unless you ALREADY had CP. You know what I mean? Many people who have an ERCP and then get pancreatitis as a result, recover from that attack and never have a problem with it again. The ERCP really is the best way for a doctor to see your pancreas, biliary tract and everything else they would need to see to reach a definite diagnosis of what ever it is that's troubling you. If the doctor is well experienced and done this procedure many times, you probably won't have to worry. I would just make sure that you stayed at the hospital until you knew you were feeling well and in the clear. It would be so good for you to know for sure what you really have wrong, wouldn't it? It looks like this may be the only way. With love, hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H.
