Guest guest
My six year old son (diagnosis PDD-NOS) has been GFCFSFYF for 3 1/2 years. We are now 13 days into SCD. My question is: When beginning this diet I didn't stick to the intro diet very well. He had some of the chicken soup, but also has been eating bananas (w/lots of brown on peel) - but not mashed. He has had plenty of raw nuts and lots of cooked veggies. Cooked apples and pears and sometimes a raw, peeled apple, pear or carrots. Cooked turkey, chicken, beef. Many cashew nut muffins (I didn't decrease the amount of honey in the recipe) and scrambled eggs. Is this okay or do I have to back up and stick with the intro diet for a few days? He had very loose stools for the first two days, but since has had formed stools. He is also on a prescribed antifungal per his DAN doc but as of tomorrow will be done with that. One other question. He loves eggs. But his bloodwork last fall indicated he has a sensitivity to eggs (and almonds)(only 1 +). Should I avoid them? If so, can egg-replacer be used? Thanks in advance for any advice. -
Guest guest
We have been on the diet a little more than a month and half so I am by no means an expert but 13 days in is probably too soon for raw nuts, raw apple and pear, raw carrot and possibly the nut butter muffins. We found that doing the intro " by the book " was really helpful and we have been adding in new cooked veg. and fruit very slowly (a new one every few days) has been helpful. We only recently added the nut butter muffins. Guest guest
Hi, , It's great that your son has formed stools! But you probably have him on this diet for his behaviors. How are they doing? Your pace has been really fast. Nuts and raw apple are generally months away. This allows healing to take place. The intro diet jump-starts the whole process. Many people see better results when the go back and do the intro diet and add foods one at a time, slowly, watching for reactions, and taking into consideration the relative digestibility of various foods. If your son is sensitive to eggs and almonds, you might try avoiding those things for a couple of months and then add them back in cautiously. Guest guest
Thank you and Kim for your responses. I will step back and do the intro now-- by the book! Yes- although his stools have been formed for years, and consistent, it is the behavoirs that are a problem. He is not really verbal- only speaks when prompted to speak. No more than 4 word sentences. Makes strange sounds often and has trouble falling asleep at night although will sleep all night. Brain fog, etc. I think under all of this he knows more than we realize. If my husband would move out for a few weeks, maybe I could get this diet implemented properly. I've fought for the GFCF diet and it's getting tiring having to fight for what will help our son. With two older children in the house too, this is just not easy. Thanks for listening. -
