Guest guest
Hi, This is off-subject so click off now if you want to! Some of you will remember my bid a couple of years ago for my school to become a specialist maths and computing college? In fact, it was actually what kept me sane in those awful months after my diagnosis. It was successful and we got the specialist status along with the additional funding (and responsibilities!) that it brings. The culmination was last Friday when Cherie Blair (our prime minister's wife) came to open our new maths centre and also a new sports hall we have just had built. Cherie is a former student of our school, by the way. The visit was a nightmare to organise...security, press etc. etc......but it was a fabulous day. She was lovely with the kids, staff, visitors, business sponsors etc. and gave an interview to the local radio station remembering her schooldays at Sacred Heart and what had changed and hadn't changed from that time. I have been shattered since but it really made me glad to be around! A very special occasion indeed. Jim took lots of photos, including one of me " telling Cherie Blair just what to do " !!! as he put it! (In fact, I was only explaining the next stage of the proceedings when she herself had asked me to tell her!) But as (our headteacher) said to Jim, " Well, why should Cherie escape what the rest of us have to put up with " ??!! Take care everyone, Fliss (UK)
Guest guest
Congratulations, Fliss!! I am proud of you! What you have done shows what can be accomplished while suffering with this horrible disease.
