Hospital mess-up caused attack- ARGHHH

Okay, I need to vent.

I have been reading posts and writing questions for a few weeks now,

and have been sitting here going- oh, gee, isn't it great that we

haven't had any problems with our doctors..

My husband spent 6 weeks in the hospital, 2 weeks in a care center,

then back in the hospital now for over a week. It turns out that

the GI doctors/Interal medicine had written up detailed orders for

my husband to take enzymes when he began eating at the care center.

Only, gee.. no such orders appear to have made it through. Instead,

we are back to square one after another attack, more CT's, more

procedures, more time, facing losing it all when my husband's pay

gets cut because he's been out of work so long. Facing, most

importantly, more damage from another attack. He barely made it

through the last one. It seems unbelievable.

We have one very unhappy internal medicine doctor working on where

things got messed up. It isn't clear if the orders never made it

out of the hospital, or weren't followed at the care center. Our

bet is on the hospital not sending the info. They sent over

instructions for the TPN he had at the care center to have DOUBLE

the normal dextrose and DOUBLE the lipids as normal - for a type 1

diabetic who has hypolipid disorder!

I've got to go take care of two children who have been upset Daddy

went back to the hospital. If he'd been on enzymes, he should have

been coming home soon. This week if not next. Now we sit and wait

again.

I really can't believe that hospitals and doctors don't pay

attention to patients with serious conditions. Not just my husband,

but so many of you. I've read so many posts from people who are

needing, hurting, aren't being listened to, treated as drug

addicts. Doctor mess-ups that end up changing lives. It just makes

me sick.

I've already posted so many messages asking for help. I'll probably

regret this in about two minutes, but I am just plain mad right

now. This isn't putting my best foot forward. Darn it, darn it,

darn it all.

Jeanette, don't regret what you wrote. We have all felt like you do at one

time or another. As you have found out it pays to watch doctors and the

institutions in which they practice like a hawk at all times. They can and

do make errors. Critical errors that demand a cost from ourselves and the

people we love. You just have to chalk it up to experience. I know. I've

been through it. Mis-, ill, or no treatment when in a medical facility is so

common it is not even funny. When it comes to medicine, we do live in a

ghastly world filled with intentional and unintentional errors.

I wish the best for you and your husband.
