Guest guest
Hi, I hope you all can help me. I am brand new to the diet, but am not really sure it will work for us. My daughter is PDD-NOS and is very very thin. wont eat anything but rice and carrots and chicken, fish..she shows in her IgG that she has problems with all nuts, seafood, grains, lentils...she even has problems with avacado and green beans. I thought this diet would help her, but I see that many of the things on here she can't tolerate and am not sure WHAT to feed her. I basically pour olive oil, ghee and other oils all over her rice to help her gain weight. She just stopped taking DIFLUCAN for yeast because I think it was cutting her appetite. We have been caesin free, gluten/wheat free for three months with good benefits, but her IgG said she had issues with soy and corn....She takes kirkman's gold probiotics....so where do I go from here?? Can I jump in with the goat yogurt? I am scared to give her just protein and veggies because i don't want her to lose anymore weight. Help! Thank you, , Mother of 2/12 year old Hannah
Guest guest
Hi , What about squash? You can prepare it in many ways and it won't feed gut bugs like rice will. Once the gut bugs start to die off, you will probably see a willingness to try more foods. B. Guest guest
Hi, , Well, we usually don't advise people to plunge in with the goat yogurt, because it is such a wonderful healing aide that we don't want them to have a bad experience and discontinue it. Your daughter will probably have a die-off reaction from giving up the rice, so you won't be able to tell if the reaction is die-off from rice, die-off from yogurt, or a reaction to casein. Sheila explains how to decide when to start the yogurt here: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/pecanbread/message/73411 The intro diet is only for 2 days. But if you are too worried about your daughter's weight to do that, you can just start giving her legal foods and go back and do the intro when her weight improves. People usually see better result if they do the intro. Do I understand correctly that you daughter is only willing to eat 4 foods: rice, carrots, chicken, fish? If so, you might want to work on getting her to eat banana and squash before starting SCD (eat a bite of squash, reward with a bite of a food she likes). Banana, winter squash, and avocado are high-calorie foods we recommend when children need to put on weight. We also recommend the healthy fats, like coconut oil, be added to other foods. mom to -12 SCD 4/23/

Some people have even noted that once the cut out the illegals (rice, flour, sugar etc...) foods they thought were problematic aren't any longer. It is best if you can start with the intro diet, even if only for a couple of days http://pecanbread.com/new/scdfoods1.html#intro http://pecanbread.com/new/scdfoods1.html#transition Usually we recommend 2-5 days on the intro diet ; 4-5 days if you have diarrhea and 2-3 for everything else. <<<<I thought this diet would help her, but I see that many of the things on here she can't > tolerate and am not sure WHAT to feed her. I basically pour olive oil, ghee and other oils > all over her rice to help her gain weight.>>>> You can continue to use oilve oil, ghee and other oils when she finishes the intro diet. (it is good to give the body a break from the oils for a couple of days - as they are harder to digest) <<<<<She just stopped taking DIFLUCAN for yeast > because I think it was cutting her appetite. There are some legal probiotics listed at http://pecanbread.com/new/probiotics1.html <<<<Can I jump in > with the goat yogurt? Some have to wait a few weeks before starting the yogurt, some are able to start it right away and some have to wait a few months. Whenever you start please note that we suggest starting with 1/8-1/4 tsp as it can cause intense die off in some. If tolerated well slowly and steadily increase the amounts. If you need some help " deciphering' your daughter's readiness for the yogurt please write into the list and we will help. Guest guest
Thanks ... She eats avacado, coconut oil (although might be allergic to coconuts) and bananas...she likes her fruit. I am really confused because I am also reading the Body Ecology Diet and it doesn't allow fruit at all but it does allow quinoa, millet and buckwheat. We made her some quiona crackers today and gave them to her iwth the avacado..and rice. You know...we never tested her for caesin, but was told it was a good thing to do. This diet allows both fruit and cheese...I am wondering if I should just try it with the diary and see what happens, but you are right..I won't know what got her if she has a reaction. The BED is big on fermented baby coconut drink...and fermented vegetables..which Hannah won't touch... Why does one diet say that fruit feeds yeast and only allows sour fruits and another say fruit is ok? doesn't apple cider have sugar that feeds yeast? I am studying away, but just not up on all of it yet... > > Hi, , > Well, we usually don't advise people to plunge in with the goat > yogurt, because it is such a wonderful healing aide that we don't > want them to have a bad experience and discontinue it. Guest guest
Hi , No, hemp milk is not OK. A lot of your questions would be answered through reading Breaking the Vicious Cycle and Pecanbread.com, but I will try to give the short version. Basically, everyone has some amount of yeast in their system. That is OK. It's overgrowth that is the problem. Body Ecology Diet has foods that are hard to digest. This is where SCD shines, because the basis of SCD in the beginning is to feed only foods that do not require real digestion in the beginning. The reason SCD specifies well cooked vegetables and very ripe bananas is that these foods will be digested BEFORE they hit the intestines. Then the bad bacteria (who are living in the intestines and waiting for the food to come down the line that your little girl can't fully digest), will starve. That is why they *seem* to be yeast feeders (and in the short term may cause a certain amount of yeast rising up as some of the bad bacteria dies off). But other people have combated this with legal supplements. Over time as more foods are introduced and more healing takes place, the issue should resolve. Part of the reason your daughter is likely limiting herself to HIGH SUGAR HIGH STARCH foods is that the yeast are having a PARTY in her intestines and everyone's invited. They send signals to your daughter to crave MORE MORE MORE like a drug addict. That is why she is refusing the other foods. She needs her fix. All grains are terribly hard to digest. Yeast can eat them no problem! This is also why most artificial sweeteners are a no-no. For example, splenda's bulking agent is corn, which your body can't digest (and thus zero calories), but bacteria in your gut can eat it no problem. Breaking this addiction is the only way to get REAL healing in her gut, and when that happens, she will gain weight. B. Guest guest
, I understand where you are coming from. I read the book,Breaking the V. Cyle and the theory behind the diet made sense to me. I have not gone SCD yet for my daughter but have started to introduce SCD legals now (which are not exactly on the other diets- ripe bananas...) and taking out the rice slowly. I have been doing this for the last 2 weeks and I can already see a change in her willingness to try the new foods. I have not seen the yeasty stuff with the intro of bananas, oranges, more carrots... and she actually does not seem to crave the rice pasta as much! My daughter has severe oral motor issues/sensitivity so this is huge for us. Hang in there, read the book if you have not. My daughter is 3 and on the little side too. Alot of regular kids go days without eating a lot too and may lose some weight- my 4yo does it occasional. Hang in there, Kathy and - almost ready for full SCD! ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Never miss a thing.
