Hey :

Thanks for your reply...but I just got my bubble burst! I too have a

fatty liver, so I wonder if it is even worth going through all that

stuff now? I really don't want to do it if they are just going to turn

me down anyways, and since I already know I have a fatty

liver.....huh...I guess I will contact them & let them know. Now I'm

really bummed! Oh well, I should have figured something would have

come up, it always does! Thanks alot for the info. You may have just

saved me a hop down the highway I really don't need to take!

Lots of Hugs,

I too have been to the University of Cincinnati Hospital for work up

to see if I was a candidate for the TP/ICT. I am not! I have a fatty

liver and, therefore, the islets will not take! I was devastated!!

If I can help in any other way, please feel free to contact me.

Which kind of fatty liver do you have-hepatic steatosis or

steatohepatitis? They're both called " fatty liver " but there's a big

difference. What kind does have? Did you have a biopsy? Cincy

may want to review it, or do their own biopsy (my biopsy went all over

the US and they still did not come to a final conclusion about it! I

think my piece o' liver is parked at the Mayo if anybody else wants to

guess at it...the enzymes did go down, however)

Did Dr. Lowy indicate if he was talking about simple steatosis (fatty

liver without inflamation) Steatohepatitis (fatty liver with

inflamation, also called non-alcoholic steatohepatitis or N.A.S.H) or

both?

Just wondering. I can see how NASH would be a problem, but am not sure

how simple fatty liver would be. But then, I'm a vet assistant, not a

hepatologist (LOL!)

What Dr. Lowy told me was that you have to have a " healthy " liver to

harvest and put in the islets for them to " take. " He did say that if

they were to do that in a patient with a fatty liver that it was

highly likely that one would die from it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey ...

there is absolutely NO reason to be sorry! I'm really happy you told

me about this! I would rather know going in, ya know? I do

appreciate everything you've told me. I just may call you soon. My e-

mail is Liamhoha20@... would you please send me your e-mail

address there? I do apprecaite it, and I will be waiting to hear

from you. I went to my family doc today, and he said my last CT scan

was in July/05, and I ask if it said I had a fatty liver, and I

really didn't understand what he was saying. He is foreign, and I

have a hard time following him sometimes. I know! I know! I need to

know these things, and I've had so many doctors quit me, I'm very

cautiious about things. The lady who called me for my appointment

said they would do a CT scan BEFORE they see me, so I guess I will

have that done. I still bummed, but not quite as bummed then

before. Again, I do appreciate all your help & advice.

Lots of Hugs,

I am sooo sorry! This might not be the case for you, but I will be

honest with you about what they told me.

There is an extensive work up process that one has to go through

before having the TP/ICT. A glucose tolerance test, CT scan, liver

testing, etc. When I went for my consult I took a recent CT scan.

Dr. Lowy looked it over and said that my liver looked fatty on the

CAT scan so he wanted me to have the liver biopsy first. I had

that, which was a nightmare (I won't go into great detail, but I had

a bleed from the biopsy and had a massive hematoma. We all know how

bad CP pain is, but this was HORRIFIC. I went like this for 2

weeks, etc.) Anyhow, the biopsy came back showing that my liver was

over 80% fatty. Therefore, I am not a candidate for the TP/ICT.

What Dr. Lowy told me was that you have to have a " healthy " liver to

harvest and put in the islets for them to " take. " He did say that

if they were to do that in a patient with a fatty liver that it was

highly likely that one would die from it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you have a recent CAT scan, MRI, etc. report that shows and

states about your liver being fatty? If so, I would go ahead and

call Debbie and tell her your situation and fax the report over to

her and let them take a look at it.

If you would like to talk or ask me anything else, PLEASE feel free

to contact me!

I gave you my email address, but if you would like to actually talk

I could give you my phone number privately.

My prayers are with you!
