To Dick Re: Clipping v. Stenting

Dick,

If by clipping they mean a sphincterotomy (an incision made in the

duct to open it up), then yes, it is my understanding that you can

still have stenting done and may well have a temporary stent put in

after the sphincterotomy to keep the duct open and draining well

while the swelling from the sphincterotomy goes down. These temporary

stents usually pass through the colon and out by themselves in a few

weeks.

Longer term stenting may have to be done if the above doesn't work or

if a " stricture " develops and the doctor feels that the duct should

be held open longer for a better long term result.

Has your doctor recommended having your gallbladder out?
