Guest guest
My son has been on CDC for about two months, he is having one to two stool a day. The first one in the morning is form, usually long and skinny, but still soft. The second one at time can be semi form, pasty or very soft. What he is eating: Mostly cook vegetable Apple or banana very ripe 16 oz of soup (he sees soup as milk and takes it before taking his nap in the afternoon and very early in the morning) Meats (between 4-8 oz per day) Problem: 1. He seem to be loosing weight, I notice that this can happen on the diet, how can I help him to gain weight? How can I add fat to the diet without increasing the protein intake, because he has a hard time digesting protein? 2. He does not tolerate Probiotics, lately now when I give Probiotics, within two hours he develop a rash and his right eye lid becomes swollen ( just a little bit) and also under the eye it seem to be a little swollen or dark. The rash is mostly on the cheeks and a little to the outer corner of his right eye. This is king of new because he has been in Probiotics before, but this problem started after he was put in Prednisolone. 3. He had in the past problem with Oxalates, but he is able now to eat carrots, and other food that contain medium or even high oxalates such as green beans (green beans not in long quantities), I am concern about introducing nut flower, and really do not know how to make it my own, (but I am willing to learn), please some direction in where to start with the flowers. Is there any commercially available product that is safe to use? As I sit here and type, I cry because I feel desperate, we try to do things right at home, but at times I feel like other problems come along, I am scare of new reactions, and know that I must not act in fear. I look at my cabinet and see how many supplements my son is taking, and something in my heat tells me are too much. My DAN doctor' say it is okay he needs it, and even thought I see progress in school and behavior, he stomach is the part that needs the most help. At times I am tired, but I am not giving up… so I came to your group to learn from those that already doing this for years. Sorry this is so long, but I will be eternally grateful from your input on my next step.
Guest guest
Hi! You can add melted coconut oil to soup and cook the meats in it, or olive oil. You definitely need more fat. What kind of soup is it? Homemade? What's in it? How old is your son? Did you do the intro? Why is your son on prednisone? What other supplements is your son taking? There are SCD legal versions of many supplements. Other people on the list can help with that. Nut flours are very advanced. Nut butters are a little better but still in stage 2. Are you following the stages on the Pecanbread web site? It's at http://www.pecanbread.com if you want to see them. B. Guest guest
Well first of all, the prednisolone might mess up your digestive system for some time, even after he's off it. It can take six months to a year for your system to recover from that. I am speaking from personal experience! It is possible that due to your time on SCD, your son's gut is already healing, so he may be tolerating less supplements. It doesn't sound like he's doing all that badly with the bowel movements. So he is not tolerating the Zyme Prime or the Peptizyde? He may just be healing and not need it right now. I would not worry. I'd be concerned about the Zantac, because from what I've read, it may make things worse and it is probably not legal. Have you tried removing the supplements and re-introducing them one at a time to see if any of them are causing a problem? I'd think with that many supplements some of them might be upsetting his stomach and then he would eat less too. Other people can give you more advice about the supplements I am sure. Above all, trust yourself. If you don't think he should be taking something, you have the right to talk it over with your DAN! doctor. Hope that helps! B. Guest guest
He tolerates the enzyme well, the problems are the probiotic. I have the zantac compunded as SCD legal. Thank you S Bridges wrote: Well first of all, the prednisolone might mess up your digestive system for some time, even after he's off it. You can make veggie pancakes with eggs including squash, avocado etc... There are recipes for these at http://pecanbread.com/new/recipes/sneakyveggiepancakes.html We all like squash fries. I brush them with olive oil or sunflower oil and bake them . The good fat will help with weight gain. You could make some homemade mayo for dipping the fries or meat or veggies in. Use a good tasting oil like sunflower or safflower. There are recipes for mayo on the website and in BTVC. <<<<2. I bought a great coffee grinder and it grinds the nuts so fine if you leave it too long it turns to nut butter.
