I just wanted to give the pre-ops a little info about my surgery

although it was fairly uneventful, which is the best kind! I was at

since I was a self-pay. Everyone at the facility was top notch.

The care was great. Dr. R was great- when does that man sleep? He was

calling to check on me at 4:30a.m., the staff said. He was there to

release me at 6 a.m. so he could get to DRH to do surgery. But I'm

getting ahead of myself.

I invited the handsome young anesthesist to be generous with the " happy

medicine " that they give you just before they put you out. The last

thing I remember is Dr.R coming in all dressed up with his briefcase

because he had just given a presentation to doctors at Duke (Lord knows

what time that was). He asked some questions and said " Well, I'm going

to get my jammies on and I'll see you in a few minutes " . He obviously

did, but I don't remember it. The next thing I remember is being asked

a lot of questions and wanting to sleep. And I did most of the day. I

had no nausea and no gas pain. I did get up a couple of times to go to

the bathroom and to take one stroll. The staff looked after every need

and after seeing Dr. R ar 6, I was released ar 7:10 a.m. I have tried

to be very good to my new tummy. I feel so blessed first that we did

not have the huge snowstorm that every weatherman in the country said

was coming, for the opportunity to have a new life, for Dr. R., and that

I have had such an easy time so far. I know I have a ways to go when I

start introducing foods but I'll try to handle whatever comes. I

already feel better. My arthritis pain is already so much better. I

tried to explain that to a pre-op at clinic today because Dr. R

explained it to me a while back but I couldn't remember it all. I just

know that it is great! So far the worst part of this was coming off

pain meds for two weeks prior to surgery but I made it with some advice

from Dr. R and now I just feel so much better and so much more

optimistic. I had forgotten what it was like to wake up in the morning

to anything but the sensation of pain and dread at the idea of getting

through the day. Sorry to go on so. I weighed for the first time at

clinic today and have lost 6 pounds. I don't know how that stands in

the averages but I'll take it. My love to all. I'll keep you posted on

my journey.
