Guest guest
Rhonda - I had a Whipple 11/24/04 for CP due to pancreas divisum. For nearly six years and numerous hospitalizations CT scans, ERCPs, stents, etc. (and elevated amylase levels to 8000!), I was told that my pancreas wasn't damaged yet and was only diagnosed as having " recurring acute pancreatitis " . I disagreed and decided to have a Whipple sooner rather than later, as I had read so many times of lack of success with this surgery due to waiting until the disease had advanced too far. When the surgeon opened me up, he was initially only going to do a Peustow, but he saw DAMAGE (as I had suspected) so he removed 25% of the head of the pancreas. Even he said the damage did not show up on any test done previously. SO, the moral of this story is that the tests are not 100% accurate. I am so thankful that I listened to my body, did the research, and made a decision that was not totally supported by my GI. He now is VERY pleased I took the " BOLD " (his word) step to have this surgery. Cecilia Mesa, AZ
