I thought this would interest some list members.

I stumbled across this article last year in the New

York Times. It chronicles the struggle of a family to

save their daughter, who is anorexic. It's a very

powerful article, and it also explains a method that

parents are using to save their children from

themselves.

I forwarded your link to a friend of mine who has been engaged in a

very long battle with her daughter who struggles with anorexia. As her

daughter is preparing to move off to collage, the mom has been

reflecting back on how far they have come. Although the girl isn't

fully recovered yet, she is on her way. My friend broke down and cried

several times while reading what you posted and thanked God that he

has sustained her little girls life. Her daughter was a lot worse then

the one described in the article, and her mom is overjoyed whenever

her daughter say " Mom, I'm hungry " ! She wanted to make sure I let the

person who posted the article know what a blessing it was to read.

Sharon in OH, -Tourettes, yeast and related conditions, started SCD

8-07. Fell off the SCD bandwagon in November, due to morning sickness

and pregnancy food cravings. Hope to get back on soon. :(

Hi Sharon,

Thank you for letting me know. It just...when I read

the article, it felt the same to me, kind of the same

thing as the things we all do, because for many people

who have anorexia, their families and friends feel

helpless. They feel like there isn't anything they can

do. Standard therapies let these people down, too.

Sounds familiar, you know? With our kids, who have

behavior problems or autism, and people tell us that

there's nothing to be done, " take them home and love

them, " and we are out here, knowing in our hearts that

there IS something we can do. There is a LOT we can

do.

It's very powerful and humbling at the same time.
