Guest guest
Hi, My son started SCD about 10 days ago. I've seen an increase in aggression, moodiness and defiant behavior. In addition, he had normal BMs before we started the diet. For the last three days, he's had very loose, dark stools. First I thought it was because he was having a lot of spinach - since it was one of the few things he was enjoying eating. But we stopped the spinach for two days, but he's still having loose BMs. And he says his stomach has been aching since this afternoon. Is this normal or are we doing something wrong? Otherwise we've been eating a lot of meat, jello, eggs, banana pancakes and grape juice. He doesn't like carrots or zucchini. Also - spinach is listed twice on the food " stages " chart that I downloaded from the Pecan Bread website. It's on stage 1, which is why we started it last week. And it's also listed on stage 4. Is that a mistake or am I missing something. I'd really appreciate any insight or help. Thanks, Lubna Son: PDD, 10 yrs. old SCD: 10 days
Guest guest
Zlubna, My son displayed temporary initial die off symptoms during the first 10 days of SCD. He was tired and could do nothing else but sit on the sofa. He seemed very sick. I begged him to eat rice so that he would get better but he refused to break the new diet....After the initial die off period, he never again had problems with SCD. He loves the diet. I now realize what happened. He had lots of bacteria inside his body. When the bacteria die, their cell wall releases a toxin called LPS. I am now so glad when I hear about children displaying the signs of die off....it means that the bacterias are dying...and the child will be free from their toxins. Please look at this website www.microbialinfluence.com It will give you the courage to go on. If you find it hard to understand then just forget about it. Have you read the very bottom of this web page? It discusses die off and how to treat it. http://www.pecanbread.com/new/begindiet1.html I also recommend green tea and S Boulardii for relief of die off symptoms. http://www.giprohealth.com/sboulardii.html I read research articles that demonstrated that green tea and S Boulardii provide relief from bacterial toxins. Die off usually lasts for a 10 days but may last as long as a month. If it lasts too long then get the help of a SCD counselor. Activated charcoal and Epsom salt baths help with die off symptoms. Guest guest
Lubna, Spinach is a stage 1 food that may be used on other stages. Guest guest
Lubna, The difference on the chart is because in stage one, the spinach must be well COOKED. In stage four, many RAW vegetables are introduced. So you will see the same vegetable twice. Guest guest
Should I wait until the loose stools firm up before adding new foods? Or is it okay to add some more veggies that he likes? > > Zlubna, > > > My son displayed temporary initial die off symptoms during the first > 10 days of SCD. Guest guest
Thanks for clarifying, I got worried I'd messed up. I noticed you wrote that you have RA. Has the diet helped you? My brother-in-law has RA, with very severe symptoms. I've recommended SCD to him since I've heard it helps but would love to be able to share first-hand experience. Thanks, Lubna > > > > > > > > Zlubna, > > > > > > > > > > > > My son displayed temporary initial die off > > symptoms during the first > > > > 10 days of SCD. Guest guest
Hi Lubna, I've been toying with diet modifications for years, and yes, the SCD is helping me. I had very severe disease activity until I did my own elimination diet and found out that gluten intolerance was contributing to my condition big time. Later I went on the Paleo diet and cut out all grains. I experienced another reduction in symptoms at that time. I have a blog here too, where I've posted my story and my journey on SCD. http://scdgirl.blogspot.com B.
