Hi,

I was doing great and had a moment of hubris (hamburg blue cheese carmelized

onion & some fresh fruit) at a restaurant couple of weeks back that made me sick

and now I am not returning to the good health I had before or even the symptom

pattern before I got well! It's got me very concerned - so much that I wondered

if I got a stomach bug but it's off and on for weeks now so I'm not so sure

that's true. I've even lost 5 lbs and my period stopped - which makes me think

I'm starving myself - which feels true as well as I'm only eating scrambled

eggs, chicken, chicken soup with long cooked mashed carrots, BTVC yogurt &

honey, mint/ginger tea and occasional walnut flour pancakes. I'm hungry and

cramped all the time now with bouts of nausea and my BMs are always loose &

sometimes mucus only.

My question is this - I took Activated Charcoal when I was on the toilet

constantly and now it's tapered but still very loose. Should (can) I take

charcoal ongoing?

Also, how do you know you have a stomach but when you have UC? I haven't gone

to the MD b/c I'm not wanting to take antibiotics but at this point I'm not sure

anything could be worse.

Hi Liz,

You've only been SCD two months, so that one meal

could set you back quite a bit.

In these situations, it's usually best to return to

the intro diet for a few days. You need to cut the

walnut flour as it would be too hard for you to

digest. I have only been SCD for a few weeks with no

major infractions, but currently I cannot digest nut

butter at all, and nut butter is easier to digest than

nut flour.

I too have trouble eating enough food, so you will

have to work on that. Try eating every 2-3 hours and

include some cooked green beans after the couple days

on the intro diet. You can try chicken pancakes as

well as carrot pancakes for variety.

If your period stopped and you are nauseous I would make sure you aren't

pregnant!

This site: http://www.enzymestuff.com/activatedcharcoal.htm says that

for diarrhea you should only take Act. charcoal for 3-4 days. I am

guessing it means at the dosing for diarrhea posted on that page.

Did you mean stomach flu? It may be a flare or it may be from the

restaurant fare. Either way, the quickest way to help get through

either is usually a few days on the strict intro diet.
