Guest guest
My 2.5 year old was once severely constipated prior to starting the diet. (We think due partly if not all to a problem with milk.) Since then, it's been almost a year, she's had regular BM's...until around Thanksgiving. It's back and it's severe. She will often have painful little drips or leaks of stool, nothing major, throughout the day. Once a week or so, she actually gets more out but it's rock hard. I can't think what has changed. She eats a lot of avocado, meatloaf with all types of veggies baked in, pancakes-(with yogurt, nuts, fruit, egg...), raisins, goat's yogurt, cod liver oil. She hasn't had beans lately, maybe I could try that. I know she's in a lot of pain. Does anyone have any suggestions? Guest guest
Hi Cheryl, I would avoid all advanced foods right now. That includes beans, raisins, nuts. All fruit and veggies must be cooked, deseeded and peeled. Did you see the new webpage about constipation? http://pecanbread.com/new/coprotocol.htm Mimi > My 2.5 year old was once severely constipated prior to starting the > diet. Guest guest
Mimi, Thank you for all the info. But this is happening again after being fine on the diet for almost a year. Could this be due to a yeast overgrowth? Can that happen when you eat too much yogurt? She eats a fair amount of honey, but not more than before. If I go back to the basic diet for a short time, can I just have her jump back into advanced foods or do we need to start over completely? Sorry for all of the questions. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! Cheryl > > My 2.5 year old was once severely constipated prior to starting the > > diet. (We think due partly if not all to a problem with milk.) Guest guest
I would cut out the honey or reduce it. How are you making the yogurt? At what temperature are you putting in the starter? How hot is the yogurt when you are making it? > Thank you for all the info. But this is happening again after being > fine on the diet for almost a year. Could this be due to a yeast > overgrowth? I use Yogurt starter and put in it around 70 degrees. I use goat's milk and bring that up to 180 degrees before cooling it. I've seen an incredible amount of progress in her developmentally--especially speech, since starting it probably 4-5 months ago. Should I continue giving it to her? Guest guest
Sac. Boulardii from Kirkman Labs helps a lot for constipation. It is a probiotic that kills bacteria and helps a lot for constipation. I learned this from another mom. I was really amazed. Threelac also helps a lot. Also, certain foods also causes constipation depending on the person. Guest guest
Thank you! I'll try that! I've heard good things about this strain. I'm ordering now. Cheryl > > > Sac. Guest guest
Thank you all for the help. I've lightened up on the honey and nuts. She's back to normal. I don't know what that was all about, but it happened just as we left to visit family for Thanksgiving and just recently went back to where it should be. Maybe she was just out of her normal routine and that messed things up with her system-- sometimes that happens to me--although not at all like this! Let's hope it stays ok. I did order the S. Boulardii which will come in handy in the unfortunate event of the need for anti-biotics.
