Guest guest
Hi all, My daughter has had chronic gas/pain most of her life. Before starting the diet, she would often have periods right after eating where she was generally miserable and would cry out as if in pain every few minutes with periods of calm inbetween. This would go on for about an hour and then she would be fine, almost happy. Periodically we would have a " crisis " and she would have a week or two where she would be inconsolable with crying, throwing herself, banging her head, etc. This would also disappear as soon as it would start. After starting the SCD and going through initial die off, we had several wonderful weeks. She was sedate, but happy and comfortable. Now this pain after eating is starting again. The only thing that seems to help is laying on the couch with her under a warm blanket or just waiting it out. Has anyone had a similar experience or idea as to why? She is non- verbal and can't tell me what's going on. Her diet has stayed pretty much the same: chicken, turkey, squash, pumpkin, green beans, asparagus, spinach, zucchini, banana, pears, almond muffins, olive oil, butter, coconut oil along with the yogurt (3 tsp/day). Thanks, Sharon
Guest guest
Hi, Sharon, Is she getting acidophilus as well as the yogurt? S. Boulardii? Have you tried any digestive enzymes? mom to -12 SCD 4/23/
Guest guest
Hi , She is getting digestive enzymes, S. Boulardi, but not acidophilus. We added one capsule to a batch of yogurt and had some pretty scary neurological reactions (she has a history of seizures). Have you found a connection between these supplements and pain after eating? Sharon > > Hi, Sharon, > Is she getting acidophilus as well as the yogurt? S. Boulardii? Guest guest
Hi, Sharon, Are the almond muffins, the newest addition? Maybe try pulling those and see if it helps. My experience is with autism. I have no experience with IBD. The reason I asked about the probiotics and the enzymes is that I think both of them help with gas. I would suspect bad bacteria for the gas and pain, but again, IBD is not my area. I would continue to increase the yogurt and maybe add some acidophilus. Sheila and her kids are currently under the weather. I hope Sheila is back on the list soon and can give you some additional advice. mom to -12 SCD 4/23/
Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for the info. has autism, along with a developmental disability and who knows what else... She has never been diagnosed with any specific gastro issues, except mild gastritis. She has had problems with constipation (without hard stools), near constant gas, bloating and failure to gain weight. The gas and bloating are better on the SCD and she is putting back on the weight she lost during the intro part of the diet. I will pull out the muffins to see if it makes a difference. She didn't have one this morning and we still had problems. What's weird is that she is fine until she eats, and then within 10 minutes or so it's like someone flips a switch, and she goes from content to screaming and crying. When I give her the baking soda water 45 minutes later, she seems better. I wonder, though, if she would feel better without it. It may just be time passing that helps. Thanks for your help, Sharon > > Hi, Sharon, > Are the almond muffins, the newest addition? Maybe try pulling those > and see if it helps. My experience is with autism. Guest guest
My Mickie is none verbal too. Is she on any probiotics and do you have a Dan doctor. Is she on any antiviral or antifungals natural or prescription. Die- off can be painfull. Does she tend to be constipated? that will cause pain too. Have you tried Activated Charcoal? that seems to work for Mickie specially at bedtime a little while after dinner. Have you ever tried threelac? Guest guest
I have a genetic casein issue and for years was told I had IBS. I was tested many years ago for gluten and was positive, however at that time milk did not seem to be an issue. However in the last 4 or 5 years I began to have the same symptoms your daughter is having. It seemed within minutes of eating I began to have gas and bad gut pain, diarrhea. I finally had testing done (out of pocket) by Entero Labs in Dallas and learned about the casein problem and they reconfirmed that I have a gluten sensitivity. I immediately stopped all milk products and began to read labels for casein. THEY put casein or gluten in everything. Oh why, can't they just give us plain food?? I am lucky as the chicken in Mexico label reads, no additives, contains chicken, water. Yaa!! In October I began SCD (after having the book on my bookshelf for 3 years and never reading it throughly). I can not stress enough to young mothers beginning this walk with a child to read the book, then read it again and highlight the areas that you will need to know or want to refer back to. Then get on the computer and throughly read all the sites listed in Elaine's book. As I live in old Mexico I do not have access to a store where I can buy goat's milk. When I began the diet in October I was in the states and bought several cans of powdered Meyenberg Goat's Milk. I made the yoghurt and loved it and had no gastric problems with it. When I ran out of the powdered milk I made some with cow's milk and find I can not tolerate the cow milk yoghurt. I immediately began to have pain, gas, diarrhea. I am looking forward to getting to the states for more goat's milk. I am buying my own goat soon!!! Guest guest
Hi Zurama, is working with a couple of chiropractors right now who use muscle energy testing to determine what supplements to use. We tried a Dan doctor a while ago, but it didn't work for us. has autism, but so many other things, too. I felt he didn't customize the treatment for her, so we moved on. Having said that, I'm glad that more doctors are getting trained in the Dan protocol as I know it has helped a lot of kids. Right now we're doing the S. Boulardi and goat yogurt. When we added acidophilus in, she fell apart neurologically (staring, jerking and some falling down). Too much, too soon, I think. Her body is so full of yeast that I know needs to get out, but 's system is so sensitive, we need to add new supplements/foods very slowly. Yes, tends to be constipated, but without hard stools. Oddly, she seems to be the most content when you'd think she'd be uncomfortable. The only thing I can figure out (since she can't tell me) is that when things stop moving in her gut, she feels better. I don't know if things moving through cause pain or if she is irritated by the feeling or something else. We haven't tried the activated charcoal, but I'll check into it. I feel like having a non-verbal child makes everything just that more complicated. I'm always a little scared when I try a new supplement without being able to get her feedback on how it is affecting her. Thanks for the info, Sharon > > > > Hi all, > > My daughter has had chronic gas/pain most of her life. At this time he is not getting any muscle reflex from my sons stomach. Which means there is interference from T7-T12. I am new to all this. There refer to this as a lession. Its very hard. Esp experimenting and not knowing if its the right thing to do. Guest guest
Hi, Sharon, I know you said her diet has been basically the same, but were there any seemingly minor changes like " natural " meat instead of " organic " [this is just an example; organic meat is not a requirement of the diet], sauteeing instead of steaming a vegetable? mom to -12 SCD 4/23/
Guest guest
, You're right. The diet is the same, but the sources of some of her foods has not been consistent. I will pay closer attention to this. I am trying to go organic as possible, but sometimes I can't find ripe fruit/produce that is organic all of the time. I'm guessing it would be the best to buy her food from the same place as much as I can? is underweight, so I'm trying to add more fat in her diet. I give her avacado, and add olive oil and butter. Do you think overdoing the fat some days could cause some problems? Thanks, Sharon > > Hi, Sharon, > I know you said her diet has been basically the same, but were there > any seemingly minor changes like " natural " meat instead of " organic " > [this is just an example; organic meat is not a requirement of the > diet], sauteeing instead of steaming a vegetable? > > mom to -12 > SCD 4/23/04 >
Guest guest
Hi, Sharon, I don't think you have to buy the food from the same place. I watch my supermarket and they clearly have changing sources of the produce they offer for sale, so just going to the same store would probably not provide consistency. But the organic/non-organic difference, especially with eggs and meats, it seems, although it would probably apply to produce as well for some people, can make a difference for some. This is not something everyone has to watch, but because your food list seems very basic and no new foods seem to have produced the return of the pain, I thought it might we worthwhile to look at more subtile differences. I hope the fats aren't the problem. You are right to add them for weight gain. I am not an enzyme expert, but I believe there are enzymes that help digest fats if that turns out to be the problem. mom to -12 SCD 4/23/
