Guest guest
Hi there. My 2 1/2 yo son. Matt, went on the SCD diet about a month ago. He refused the chicken soup and anything pureed, but was willing to eat chicken drumsticks a bit of chicken pancale, applesauce, apples - raw and peeled - and spinach juice flavored with a bit of water, pear or apple juice. He absolutely refused the pear sauces. He used to have soft mushy but sort of formed stools with much undigested food, and now he is having very mushy stools , still with undigested food...bits of chicken and apples. He ate a few peas and a few green beans the other day. We were thrilled...but then he had terrible runny stools. His once very distended tummy has shrunk considerably, but remains swollen somewhat. He still zones out and seems very fatigued at times. It is hard to get enough liquid into him. We have much muchbetter eye contact, jooint referencing, and a couple words now...I think he would imrpve tremedously if we could help heal his gut issues...I CANNOT GET HIM TO EAT BROTH CHICKEN PANCAKES AND ANYTHING INTRO THOUGH...please please help me. The GFCF was a disaster for us, but this diet is not helping us if none of these foodw will be eateb or tolerated/just passed through mostly undigested. He had more energy on GFCF, though he also had a terrible yeast problem too....Di (Matt 2 1/2 ASD)
Guest guest
Hi, Di, Matt is not digesting his food because some of it is too hard (too advanced) to digest for him right now. Somehow we have to get him through the intro. It is good that he will eat drumsticks. Do you cook them for a long time in broth? I know at first you were getting them from a restaurant. Have you given him the well-cooked (4 hours) carrots from the soup as whole pieces, not pureed? Did you try the homemade gelatin? If grape is not a favorite, try making it with diluted apple cider. This is legal on the intro, but somehow got left off the list on pecanbread.com. Would he eat gelatin as Knox blox, which are firmer than the wiggly " jello " ? Did you try broiled beef patties? If all else fails, you can squirt liquids and pureed foods into the back of his mouth with a medicine syringe. It takes a long time to finish eating this way, but the pureed form would definitely be easier to digest. mom to -12 SCD 4/23/
Guest guest
Hi Di, Many people add cooked squash in the beginning. You need to stop the raw and peeled apples -- they will halt your progress at this point in time. It's OK he won't eat pear sauce. I haven't even tried pear and we're on stage 2. It's just not something my son and I are interested in. So that's OK. If you cut the raw and peeled applesauce out, and stick to the other foods for a few days, I bet you will see some progress. What about carrots? My son loves the carrot pancakes. B. ASD son, RA self, SCD Nov. 2007 http://scdgirl.blogspot.com *********** --- diatplay wrote: > Hi there. My 2 1/2 yo son. Guest guest
Thanks for responding...Matt is a tough nut, and he is not going for the chicken stock or cooked carrots or any of it at this time...but we are thinking of letting him get hungry over the holidays when my husband has some time off...how do you know when to advance to the next foods on this diet...stools? Also, did SCD recover your child? I see your dates...and you have been at it for awhile. Guest guest
Hi, Di, You move on based on stools and behaviors. You try new things in small amounts and if it doesn't go well you wait a while before trying it again. had been doing chelation and it is my feeling that he couldn't heal because of it. A single chelation challenge in Oct. '06 set him back about a year. We stopped chelating after that. He continues to make slow, steady progress. mom to -12 SCD 4/23/
