introducing more foods

Hi all,

My son is still having erratic bowel movements. He'll have normal,

formed stools for 2 days, then nothing for 3 days, then again a day of

normal, or somewhat loose consistency, then again nothing for 2 days,

etc. We started 3 weeks ago. We did the intro for 5 days then added

bananas, carrots, green beans, spinach. Yesterday I made him almond

butter brownies because he's been craving something different and

sweet. Is that too early? I haven't added any additional veggies or

fruits because I thought his stools should be regular before

proceeding too far. He's not complaining of any pain or discomfort.

And his behavior seems the same - I haven't noticed anything different

since adding more foods. He's been emotional and quick to anger, but

I think that's more due to the social issues he's having at school

than with die-off or reactions. It was a bit more intense at the

beginning of the diet, but seems to have settled down again. It seems

consistent over time. But he does pee in bed every night - which I

understand to be a physiological response rather than

gut/die-off-related, right?

My questions:

- Is his bowel situation normal at this stage?

- Is it okay to add more veggies and fruits? - We're still hovering

around Stage I, with the exception of the almond butter. Should I wait

for regular, daily BMs before moving ahead?

- Can I start goat yogurt since we don't seem to have major die-off or

food reactions?

- I've become constipated since starting this diet, not sure why. I

don't have any GI issues, so I took some liberties with having nut

butter and nut flour earlier on in the diet. Could that be the

reason? I did the intro with my son and then had almond-carrot

muffins and nut toffees after that.

I'd really appreciate any advice or insight from others.

Thanks in advance,

Lubna

Hi Zlubna,

Did you introduce one food every four days at the

start? By introducing them slowly, you will be able to

see if there's a reaction. It is normal to have fewer

bowel movements. Constipation is also normal.

Almond butter brownies could be a problem at this

stage, definitely. I started earlier than you did and

my son and I both had some degree of difficulty with

them. Keeping a food journal can help you see what's

going on as well.

I also thought I had no GI issues, really. As I was

running for the bathroom after eating some almond

butter not an hour earlier, I changed my mind. LOL.

Just a thought about the peeing in bed every night. My 15yo pees all

down the hall on the way to the bathroom (and has peed the bed once

on this diet) when he drinks the Welch's 100% purple grape juice. I

cut it out of our diet for a week--no problems. Reintroduced it

Sunday--last night, he had another episode. So you might want to

look at something he's eating or drinking as the culprit.
