Guest guest
We just started my son on the SCD diet this weekend for his autism. When do you start to usually see some type of results? Good or bad? Has anyone had great success with their autistic child's behavior on this diet? We need some type of hope. Thanks.
Guest guest
My son has autism and he has made great gains almost immediately. If the protocol from the Pecanbread site is followed, I don't see how you couldn't have benefit. My son is mild to moderate autistic and after his first full week on SCD he stopped biting himself and he stopped headbutting his teachers. His language improved too and he started talking about his brain working. He is behaving in a far more age-appropriate manner. Just today the bus driver said, " He's a lot better now, " and was considering letting my son sit on the seat like the other kids instead of in a modified booster seat to keep him from getting up and running around. Your mileage may vary, but after going gluten free, we saw some gains, but they weren't as good as these. SCD is working better than straight GFCF ever did for us. B. Guest guest
I have been reading about lots of good progress in recent posts. In our case, has only made slow and steady progress, nothing dramatic, so as says, " your mileage may vary. " mom to -12 SCD 4/23/
Guest guest
My son is three and has PDD-NOS. WE have been on the diet since Nov 20th. We saw things start to change with him within two or three days. He was more engaging and more " typical " in his behavior. He started imitating sounds. (He is nonverbal.) And started doing the hand movements to songs he had never done it with before and added to ones he already did. He is trying to be funny now and today was the first time I really saw him pretend playing on his own! But the fact that he is trying to talk now just amazes me! I never thought a diet could do all this. Hang in there. This diet does work! son-3yo-PDD-NOS, SCD since 11/20 -------------- Original message -------------- From: witchmom19 <no_reply > We just started my son on the SCD diet this weekend for his autism. Apart from that it was slow and steady. Hang on in there- if nothing else, it's a very healthy diet, despite the hard work. .
Guest guest
Each kid is different. Some parents see results quickly, others don't report them for months. In my opinion, the best way to look at it is this way: this is a very healthy diet that will slowly help my child feel better and get better. There will be good days and bad days, there will be slip-ups sometimes that I never saw coming. One way or the other it is the most solid step I can take for our kid. It is the foundation of all the other treatments I will try. It is the begining of his health and his return. If it takes a little time, that's okay with me. Like a skinned knee, it's best not to peek under the bandage. Have confidence in what the body can do for itself, when given the best possible tools. witchmom19 <no_reply > wrote: We just started my son on the SCD diet this weekend for his autism. Guest guest
I have had much success with this diet in only a few months. We are now finishing our 7th month. I have one of my four year old twins recovered. (although I will always think of him as having autism, just symptom free) The other twin has made huge gains and most of the autistic behaviours are gone. The both became verbal (not just ecolalia within a month on this diet) still has some expressive language issues but for both boys, their guts have healed so much. We are still not able to do nuts, but we do use coconut oil. We also just started the yogurt and do not use any cheeses. If you would like a copy of our account of this diet, please contact me with your email address and I will send you a copy. When time permits, I will upload before and after videos of my twins. The docs around here keep saying I should do a documentary on their recovery.......I think they think I am the only one, little do they know how many moms are out there doing this. Personally,I have seen many kids making huge gains from diet intervention alone. Do the diet and talk to the pros on this board. They will guide you. All the best, Cindy Mom to and 7 months of SCD Re: Behavior Successes > Each kid is different. Some parents see results quickly, others don't > report them for months. Guest guest
We have been on the diet for just over five weeks. My oldest, who's 15, is our ASD child. His usual stim is to follow (with his eyes) the line where the ceiling meets the wall in the room. He avoided eye contact a LOT, pre-SCD. Now, I notice (and he does, too) he does not stare at the ceiling/wall intersection anywhere near as much as he did, he also makes more eye contact when he's speaking. He still has issues with personal space yet I notice he's not AS fussy with his OCD tendencies, and he has made some observations that seemed more age-appropriate for him. Which is not to say that all is perfect with him, but I can definitely see progress. Hope this helps, Cathe, yeast overgrowth, mom to: 15yo ds ASD, OCD, bipolar 10yo ds ADHD, bipolar 6yo ds NT, severe constipation All SCD since 11/4/2007 > We just started my son on the SCD diet this weekend for his autism. > When do you start to usually see some type of results? Guest guest
I have kids the same age as Cathe's and have been on the diet not much longer than her. My twin almost 15 year old boys have severe Autism. We've been on the diet a little over 2 months and have seen nothing. Yesterday though, and I had a mini conversation! And the same today! Connor is a lot more affected - so nothing real to report, though it seems as if his brain fog is clearing a bit for him....but I don't know if I'm just trying to read this into him??? Give it time - I hate to say that because it's discouraging - you want your kid cured NOW....I know I want to. I believe that with SCD and the supp's we are on to something - even us with older children. It took a while for them to get here - it's going to take a while for them to recover (that's what I tell myself EVERY day) . I know I'm in this for the long haul - and even if I'm not seeing the dramatic changes other parents are reporting, I know in my heart of hearts that this is the road to our recovery! Hang in there! :-) Cherie crohns 8 years Connor and 14.10 ASD In a message dated 12/12/2007 7:22:08 A.M. Pacific Standard Time, cathe616@... writes: We have been on the diet for just over five weeks. Guest guest
>I started scd for my son with autism and seizures and in 1 month he was completely potty trained. He had only been 100 percent trained for urine before scd. That was exactly what I needed to continue the diet for an entire year. In addition, his seizures were not nearly as frequent. Before scd he was constantly looking for food. He ate a lot. Scd diet helped him not be so super hungry all of the time. Good luck. - son with autism and seizures > We just started my son on the SCD diet this weekend for his autism. > When do you start to usually see some type of results?
