We did not start from the beginning, I did not have book (had to order

it), then other things happened, anyway... My 10 year old UC is on this

diet for 3 weeks now. He eats everything steamed and I am following the

basic directions, and for now does not have main symptoms (blood, BM,

etc.). However, he looks pale and tired, his body temp a little lows

and he has dark circles under eyes. Here are some questions: is

pomegranate legal, is there any other food to help with iron, is it OK

for him to be involved in sports?

Thank you,

What is he eating now? Are you now following the

stages on the Pecanbread web site? Or are you just

following the book?

We need to know exactly what he is eating and how much

and when so that we can give you more advice.

I do not really know what stage is he on, but we only use almond

flour, eggs, legal vegies and fruits (everything legal from the

list). He drinks Smart water and Welsh grape juce. I only use

recepies for SCD diet and honey as a sugar substitute. He is not

eating nutts nor seads (I am afraid it'll scrath his intestines). I

think that's it. Please let me know what else I need to mention... I

am so glad that I got your attention immediately!!

Thank you,

, mom of 10 years old.

Dear Mimi,

The only reason I decided to give him pomegranate is because it should

help him with iron. I do not know any other source, besides liver

(which he likes).

Thanks,

Hi, ,

Here is the info from the Knowledge Base at the

Breakingtheviciouscycle.info site:

Seth writes:

" Iron shots (which I had when I was younger) are painful, but at least

bypass the problem of iron on the gut.

There are certain supplements you can take to help absorb iron better.

For one, Vitamin C binds to iron in food and helps facilitate the

transportation of iron across the intestines into the bloodstream.

Lactoferrin, a protein the body uses to bind to iron, can also be

useful if taken by supplement. It binds tightly to iron, keeping it

from catalyzing oxidative reactions, keeping it away from pathogenic

bacteria, and also helps the body absorb the iron. Lactoferrin

supplements can be expensive "

The best thing for iron is liver, so I'm glad your son likes it. Does

he have it at least once a week? There are also capsules containing

dried liver that he could take.

I don't know if he can participate in sports. I think that would be

something to ask your doctor.

childrens health :o) I just would like to know if there are places on-

line where I can order these suplements or brands I should look in

Hi, ,

I just did a search for dessicated liver capsules and another search

for lactoferrin and found lots of companies that sell these.

Unfortunately, I can't tell you where to buy them, because I don't use

these myself and I don't know what brands to suggest. Why don't you

try your local health food store first? Sometimes they can order

things they don't have for you. If that doesn't work, do an online

search and see if there is a company you trust.

If anyone uses these products, I hope they will post their experiences.

The only problem is, are they all legal? I just realized I was using

illegal butter. Tried to find brand which is legal, but failed. Any

suggestions?

Thank you,
