I will start with the intro diet for my son Dec 20 or 21st. I was

very much questioning whether he would eat anything on the intro diet

without a major fight. The only thing I thought had a chance were the

chicken pancakes. He ate them today!! Is it ok if all he eats during

the intro is chicken pancakes? Also on the honey...I'm giving him

honey now and he is having good bowel movements. Does this mean it is

safe to use this amount of honey during the intro diet? He also ate

some frozen green beans today that I got from Trader Joes. Is frozen

produce ok? Also he uses Tom's of Maine toothpaste - I'm assuming

this is not ok (there is xylitol in it). What is SCD legal for

toothpaste? Finally my son has his IEP in a week and will start

school early January. I know to tell them not to let him play with

play-doh. Are there any other art supplies that are a no no? How

does SCD feel about stuff like this? GFCF makes a big deal about no

washable markers, dry erase products, colored pencils, etc.

thanks for your help,

son will start SCD in 1 week, 3 years old ASD

Hi ,

You will need to have some source of carbs other than

honey on the intro. I would try the carrot pancakes.

The intro is only a couple of days but keep in mind

that if you keep on schedule, you will be eating a lot

of those intro foods regardless.

The honey should be OK as long as you don't use too

much.

I do not allow my son to play with Play-doh at school.

Small kids are just not the best in cleaning up and it

can easily get under fingernails and into their

mouths. Some parents don't worry about it, but I know

gluten affects my son, so I do worry. :)

Frozen produce is fine as long as it's well cooked as

per the intro.

Toothpaste is fine as long as they aren't swallowing

any of it, so I wouldn't worry about that.

Hope that helps!

Hi, ,

Well, it's ideal, seeing as there wouldn't be many carbs. (Honey

will supply some of the carbs.) The homemade gelatin (using diluted

Welch's grade juice or legal cider) and the well-cooked carrots

provide carbs and more balanced nutrition. Maybe you could hide some

carrots in the chicken pancakes. Maybe you could puree carrots with

diluted cider or grape juice and make a popsicle.

Also on the honey...I'm giving him

Honey is ok for the intro diet. Not sure what amount you are using.

It is always good to practice moderation.

Yes.

We don't worry about toothpaste if the child does not swallow it.

SCD does not concern itself with what comes in contact with the

skin. If you know that your child has had a reaction through the

skin, you should still avoid whatever the substance is. Now if it's

something that gets under the nails and then into the mouth, it could

be a problem.
