Guest guest
Hi, I've found my blood sugar did even out as suggested by cutting out the starches and the cravings have diminished considerably! The only thing I could do was eat all the legal foods (like salad - i haven't had that in months!) I could think of and it helped distract and fill me. I'm also really constipated (prune juice and walnut mufins aint helping like before) so I thought it would help that. I just wanted some advice about this broad diet on Pred. I know it's a speed healer so I'm wondering how to strike the balance here. I want to be off as soon as possible without hitting a relapse. I'm thinking now that I'm on it, if I can get to the quickest place of low side effects I should do it super slow while eating the best nutrition possible. The limited diet I had for the past two weeks did me more harm than good I think. And I hope to start an aggresive diagnosis and treatment plan for candida which I have heard helps introduce and tolerate more healthful/legal foods. And I will never EVER gamble hard won gut health on a bleeping hamburger at a restaurant again! I meet for tea (my own) only now! What is the deal with oil of oregano? Does that help with the Pred wean as well? Liz K UC 4 yrs, SCD 8/07 --------------------------------- Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile. Try it now. Guest guest
Liz, I may not be of much help as some of the others on this site. You have to remember that prednisone is really just masking the health and healing of your colon. So even though you may be feeling good, and really hungry, it may not be a good idea to be eating lettuce at this time, or other advanced foods that you feel you can tolerate! I would really try to get back on stage one and two foods , and go slow, along with what your doctor suggests for weaning off your prednisone. Perhaps when you are weaned off of it, then add a few stage 3 foods slowly? I hope this would be good advice, because I struggle with the issues of prednisone and choosing legal foods and how slow/fast to move. Perhaps I write so I will read it myself!!!! Guest guest
Hi Liz, Glad to hear that cutting the starches helped. I was on prednisone for my rheumatoid arthritis a lot, and I was running my own different elimination diet at the same time. I think almond butter and almond flour are very high in fiber. Maybe you could try that? Also if you take enough fish oil it will have a bit of a laxative effect. I take six capsules twice a day and it doesn't do anything to me in terms of bathroom stuff, but it does help with the inflammation. It just depends on how much you tolerate. I can't see any way it would hurt. Also making the yogurt will help fight candida. Just some ideas. I am not up on the anti-candida supplements but I'm sure others are. B. Guest guest
Prednisone before SCD made my son an eating machine and he swelled up like a balloon. On SCD the same dosage has very little effect on him that way - a little moon face but that's it. And the cravings and appetite are so much more managable. Oil of oregano is an antibiotic and anti fungal - the last time my son flared he went on prednisone and it didn't work as usual - I needed something else to help and someone on this list recommended the OOO. I started with 3 drops 2x a day and after one dose he had a normal BM. I would keep him on that dose until I started to see regression and I'd up the dosage by one drop 2x a day. He normalized at 8 drops 2x a day and he weaned off the prednisone without any problems at all. I kept him on the OOO for several months and had no problems for over a year. He is now flaring but his doc cut his sulfa drug dosage in half and I don't think he was ready for that... I'm now trying to get him out of the flare without the prednisone - he's taking 10 drops 2x a day of the OOO... I hope it works! He's still in the flare but is only going 1-2x a day and didn't go at all today. The sulfa drug dosage was upped as well but it's never pulled him out of a flare by itself, though it is also an antibiotic. Hope that helps!
