Guest guest
Thanks everyone for your suggestions about the recent flare up of mine. I'm still confused though - is the Prednisone helping or masking? This is what the dilemma is - how fast to taper and what foods to eat right now? Has anyone been on Pred and an antifungal at the same time? Is it a wash? Should I not be eating more advanced foods right now even though it keeps the cravings under control? I'm having such a hard time with the elimination part of the diet... Liz UC 4 yrs SCD 8/07 --------------------------------- Never miss a thing. Make Yahoo your homepage. Guest guest
Liz, You won't be able to taper the prednisone any faster than the doctor suggests. Tapering prednisone too quickly will cause another flare. I don't think you should be eating more advanced foods while on prednisone. Even though you feel better, you could be doing more damage. B. Guest guest
Hi Liz, > > Thanks everyone for your suggestions about the recent flare up of mine. I'm still confused though - is the Prednisone helping or masking?>>>> The prednisone can do both IMO. It boosts your body so you can get over the flare but not necessarily treat the root cause of the flare. <<<< This is what the dilemma is - how fast to taper and what foods to eat right now?>>>> You should definitely consult with your doctor about this. If you taper too fast your body won't be able to restart producing enough of its own steroids and you can flare up again. Your docto r will probably base your wean schedule on how severe you were and how your symptoms are now. The foods to eat will depend on how your symptoms are right now. As you wean off prednisone your body may not tolerate the same foods and if they are too advanced they could trigger a relapse. It is a balancing act. <<<<<Has anyone been on Pred and an antifungal at the same time? Is it a wash?>>>>> Do you mean is it a waste to take the antifungal? Probably not. If your problem is yeast then treating the yeast while haveing your body supported by pred may help start get the yeasties under control. Double check with your doctor and/or pharmacist that the antifungal you plan to take won't interfere with pred or any or meds you are taking. If/When you start the anti-fungals you may experience die off. This can make constipation worse. to alleviate this do epsom salt baths, gradually increase up to a full dose of antifungals (don't start at a full dose).
