Hiya all,

I've been lurking in the mailing list for a few days, reading/listening/watching

you all. So now, I think it's time to come out and make my introduction.

My name is , I'm from western Kentucky (Go Wildcats!). I'm 34 years old,

single, and have been overweight for as long as I can remember. I'm sitting

here dumbfounded, as I just got off the scales because I wanted to tell you all

exactly how much I weight. I hadn't weighed for a very long time... you know

how it is when you pretend if you don't know for sure, then maybe it's really

not true? Well, I was about 15 lb heavier than I realized, weighing in at 329

lb, height 5'10 " . I'm sure this is my heaviest point.

Which brings me to the fact that I don't ever intend to be this heavy again. :)

I've been researching WLS for a while now, as a friend of mine had RNY last

spring and has had excellent results. I was reluctant to have the open

procedure, and was very excited to find Dr. R's site with information about the

modified laparoscopic procedure.

I've written a letter to my family physician, attaching pertinent documents from

the website, so I can find out if I will have his support. I already have the

overwhelming support of my parents, although my dad is cautious and worried that

I'll have a negative long-term result. I got him online today to read some of

the website and the success stories, and he feels much better now.

I have United Healthcare insurance, and I understand from my reading that

they've paid for this surgery before. So, I am hopeful I won't run into

problems there.

I just wanted to say hi, make my presence known, and invite any of you who are

interested in being a Patient Contact for me to email me at:

midwife@... with the word CONTACT in the header. I'd love to

exchange private emails, or speak to you on the telephone (on my dime, of

course). I'm so glad you are all here, it makes me feel much less alone.

Welcome. You have come to the right place. You sound intelligent and well

informed. The best thing you can do is research and read read read. Continue

to monitor this list, then make your decision.

I leave for Durham later today (it is currently 230am here), My surgery is

Friday. I will post my story when I return on the 28th, unless I can find a

computor elsewhere.

Best of luck in your decision, whatever it may be.

Hi ,

Welcome to the group. I am relatively new to the group as well, only having

been here for a couple of weeks. I can't answer many of your questions, but

there are many people here that can! This is one the best groups you could have

found. They are sometimes brutally honest, but there to support you all the

way! :o) Again, welcome!

Welcome , You've found a great place with great people. You're the same

height as me and I topped out at 324...(might have been more but I quit weighing

then) and on the day of my surgery I was 304. I was 212 about three weeks ago

and I had surgery on May 31. Life is good.
