Guest guest
My son has been doing SCD and GF/CF for three weeks now after 9 months of GF/CF alone and today has been VERY hard day-- lots of screaming, running, hitting, and not following basic directions and very non complaint...Is this die off from no sugar?? I gave the charcoal, epsom salt bath and seemed worse not calmer...any ideas on what to do to treat if this is die off== or maybe the empsom salt bath makes some kids worse?? this is all so confusing and don't know what to do next...he is 13 and can get very aggressive so i have to be so careful with anything i do to make sure he stays in control and calm...your help is always very much appreciated.... Guest guest
Great posting , My son has been crazy this week. I am trying to pull metals out of his body along with trying to feed him a good diet w/o sugar. We did eat alot of peanut butter last week and I was unaware of the yeast it produces? I have heard so many times it gets worse before it gets better, but its so hard and also so hard to convince family members. I am also worried that to much protein is causing this too. Guest guest
Hi, Tina, If you are doing chelation, that really messes up the gut and creates an opportunity for the yeast to move in. It may not be the peanut butter. However, experience has shown that peanut butter is harder to digest for many people than we previously thought. SCD is not a low carb diet. Please be sneaky about adding fruits and veggies if your child doesn't like them plain. If you go to www.fitday.com, you can use their calculator and find out the percent of fat, carbs, and protein that your child is consuming. mom to -12 SCD 4/23/
Guest guest
I am not doing chelation. My son eats tons and tons of fruits. I almost don't want to buy it. I have been sneaking squash in meatballs, and he loves the squash brownies, but they had pb in them. Its so hard. I also take my son to a chiropractor/neuroligist. And My sons body is really messed up. So I am not sure if his body is reacting to the adjustments, since his body is getting inlined? > Hi, Tina, > If you are doing chelation, that really messes up the gut and creates > an opportunity for the yeast to move in. Guest guest
Hi, Tina, I don't personally know anyone who goes to a chiropractor but I know some who do cranial sacral and they always improve after a treatment. I hope that someone who goes to a chiropractor will post what they know about bad behaviors following treatment. I haven't subbed a different nut butter in the brownies, but you could try and see if it makes a difference. Keep working on getting him to accept the veggies, sneaky and other wise. mom to -12 SCD 4/23/
Guest guest
I have heard of that therapy also. An Ot I know did it with her daughter. At this point my son's feet were not responding properly nor what his stomach muscles. Which shows that he has lessions in his spine. which means there is interference inbetween the sublaxations. Its all very hard to understand. I made the meatballs with squash last night and he ate them. > > Hi, Tina, > I don't personally know anyone who goes to a chiropractor but I know > some who do cranial sacral and they always improve after a treatment. > I hope that someone who goes to a chiropractor will post what they know > about bad behaviors following treatment. > I haven't subbed a different nut butter in the brownies, but you could > try and see if it makes a difference. > Keep working on getting him to accept the veggies, sneaky and other > wise. > > > mom to -12 > SCD 4/23/04 >
Guest guest
Tina, How about green tea in the morning? At night it might interfere with sleep. If that does not work, try S Boulardii. The probiotic section of our website has info about S Boulardii. Mimi > I have heard of that therapy also. An Ot I know did it with her > daughter. Guest guest
Green tea is great for the symptoms of die off or bacterial toxins. Guest guest
That is what you can use. However, if you have chemical sensitivities you might want to skip the types with the bag. If this is for more than just one bad day, then you might want to buy the high quality ones. Dr. Mercola sells this brand: http://products.mercola.com/green-tea/ It is so expensive There are other high quality green teas that are not so expensive but I cannot locate them right now. This is another expensive one: http://www.wulongforlife.com/?gclid=CMft6uKa1o8CFReQGgodjSbr8w I hope that other listmates can find other brands. I just use the ones from Whole Foods with bags. My daughter reports that green tea makes her feel better after an infraction. There is scientific research that indicates that green tea helps with bacterial toxins. LPS (endotoxin) is one of the most common bacterial toxins. http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/cgi-bin/abstract/112369676/ABSTRACT?CRETRY=1&\ SRETRY=0 Immune activation, either by cytokines or endotoxin, elicits a constellation of nonspecic symptoms such as weakness, malaise, listlessness, fatigue, adipsia, anorexia, depression and anxiety collectively termed as sickness behavior. Further, endotoxin administration in animals has been implicated in the pathogenesis of many types of liver disease. Green tea, a common household drink, is rich in antioxidant polyphenols demonstrating inhibitory effects on cytokine production. The present study was designed to investigate the effect of chronic treatment of green tea extract (GTE) on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced sickness behavior and liver damage in rats. The hypothesis was tested through the analysis of LPS-induced behavioral changes in rats, in plus maze and open eld paradigms. Other parameters such as feeding and water consumption, weight loss and organ weight index were also estimated. Liver function tests were conducted to investigate the effect of GTE supplementation on LPS-induced hepatic dysfunction. The results of the study demonstrated that GTE signicantly attenuated LPS-induced sickness behavior as well as hepatic damage either by its antioxidant activity or by inhibiting LPS induced cytokine production in rats. Guest guest
Mimi, I know I should know more about it, but I am just green tea dumb. When you say get some green tea, you mean in what form? How do you make it/use it? Sweeten it? I know there are those bottles of pre-made green tea that have citrus and several other chemicals in it, but can you get " green tea bags " ? Guest guest
Hi Bonita, I use " green tea bags " from Whole Foods. That would be fine as a short term thing for a week or so. If you want to continue using green tea then do research on the net for the really good quality brands. You might then want to boil the tea and strain it. The use of green tea for dealing with die off reactions is fairly new to Pecanbread so we appreciate feedback from list members. BTW, I did discuss green tea with Elaine and asked her if it interfered with the vicious cycle and she said that it did not. Guest guest
Hi Tina and Mimi, When making the green tea use boiled water that has cooled a little. The green tea will have higher antioxidant properties. Hot water not boiling water. Guest guest
I want to add that if you have a good quality green tea, it will not taste bitter at all. Some of the kinds in the sealed little tea bag envelopes taste TERRIBLE and bitter. I bought a box of what was supposedly white tea and it was too bitter to drink. Guess that's why it was $2! I also do not like Stash tea at all. I have gotten the Bigelow organic green tea and Tazo teas. They taste very good. I also have a selection of loose green teas at home but I am not always able to take the time to play with them properly. B.
