Guest guest
I didn't know I was starting such a heated discussion. It is not really that I think being diagnosed apraxic is better then ASD or visa versa. And I really don't want to just accept a diagnosis just because it will get the best services, because what I have been reading about Apraxia is that the therapy is different. I want Ozzie to have the right therapy and not be treated for something that he doesn't have. I myself find ASD just a label to put on a bunch of symptoms that may or may not be related to any other health problem, that doctors have no other idea what to call them. It seems to me that since there are so many children suffering with these symtoms, but don't seem to fit into one specific group, there should be more research into what the heck is going on with our kids. I have no problem dealing with having a special needs child. My oldest is 6 and he has hirsprungs disease and was extremely sick for the first few years of his life. I thought Ozzie would be my easy one, but they are both special and that is fine with me. I can fight for my kids to get the help or services they need like a mama bear, but I want to know what I am fighting for. I will accept the diagnosis if that is what he really has, but I never just sit back and let doctors make all the decisions. I learned that with my first one. I love this group, there are great discussions. I'm glad I found it! Thanks so much to everyone who responded to my first letter.
