swollen stomach and face... bloated and in pain... gasy?

Hi

My son,, is SCD for 34 days.

I gave him too much yogurt too soon too fast-- started with 1

tablespoon, and went to 2 tablespoons in 2 days. I know-- big screw

up... but HOW big?

He has had none since Thursday.

Since the diet, even before yogurt mistake, his stomach has gotten

bigger, swollen, though he is eating healthier, organic food.

I attributed it to things dying in his gut, and toxins swelling him up.

But... it has been over 4 weeks... shouldn't it be smaller?

He is not fat, yet, his belly is huge...and his face is swollen and

get sudden blotchy-ness (could this be yogurt-reaction?)

Can yogurt reaction be VEREY rough? for days? (which it's been)... or

longer? weeks possibly? More?

I am so upset for him.. we are back to 3-4 epson salt baths (which

help him a lot), charcoal... herbs... homeopathics, etc. Prior to

yogurt, he wasn't needing these much anymore... now, we're back in the

bad place.

any light at the end of my tunnel?

PLEASE?

He has tripped and scratched his teacher today, and scratched his

brother;s face... and been in lots of pain./..

thanks

The bloating sounds bad, and not normal. Did you

introduce foods slowly as per the web site?

You need to go back to the intro diet. Introduce one

thing at a time with 2-4 days between each food. The

protocol is on the Pecanbread.com web site. It could

be a food that doesn't agree with him. In the very

beginning my son could not eat regular bananas. During

stage 2 it was butternut squash.

You can't be sure what it is unless you do one food at

a time.

Is he taking other medications? Supplements?

The yogurt reaction will go away after about a week.

It seldom stays longer than 10 days.

No one should start out with more than 1/8 of a

teaspoon. Since we asked parents to start out with

1/8 of a teaspoon, we have had very few bad reactions.

There is a big difference between 1/8 and 1/4 of a teaspoon

so please be careful. Did you drip the yogurt? That also

makes a difference. Please do not try the yogurt again until

further gut healing takes place.

I hope that your son feels better soon. it probably is a die off

reaction so try green tea and let us know if that helps.

Mimi,

She said the bloating happened BEFORE the introduction

of the yogurt. So I was more concerned that there are

food reactions going on here.

Hi ,

I do agree that food reactions might be playing

an important role in this case. The die off reaction

from the yogurt might have made the situation a bit

more difficult.

I just cannot stop myself from warning parents to

go slowly with the yogurt. This comes from my

memories about how we shocked the ASD world

with our recommendations for the use of goat yogurt

a few years ago. It is because I want to minimize the

die off reactions from the yogurt

If a kid on our list gets a bad reaction to eggs or some

other food that is allowed on GFCF, then everyone

is calm and aware that kids with ASD have many

sensitivities. No one tries to stop other kids with autism

from eating eggs if one kid gets a bad reaction to eggs.

Unfortunately, the yogurt is demonized because of

the ban against all dairy. Not all dairy is created equal.

I agree that milk from cows is bad for many people but

the SCD goat yogurt has brought so much healing to so

many children with autism. The casein has been altered

by the yogurt making process and has become harmless.

Even the smallest reaction to the yogurt used to scare the

DAN doctors.

I once advised a certain SCD mother to give her child the

yogurt. After eating the yogurt, the child quickly started to

recover from ASD but had

a runny nose from the yogurt. The child's DAN doctor

advised them to stop the yogurt. Who care if a 3 year

old has a runny nose if it brings a recovery from a lifelong

disability? Yet the DAN doctors are not scared from chelation

or other treatments that bring on much worse side effects.

I am glad that the bias is slowly going away because the yogurt

doubles the benefits of SCD!

Hi Mimi,

You are of course right. I haven't even tried the

yogurt yet and all of the stories about people

overdoing it in the beginning have scared me straight!

And I haven't even tried it yet! LOL!

I just didn't want the food reactions to get lost in

the shuffle.

Thank you,

Since his tummy was swollen before the yogurt the problem isn't the

yogurt it is the food he is eating and/or the way it is prepared

(peeled, raw ..?). The yogurt may or may not exaccerbate the problem.

What foods is he eating and how are they all prepared?

This is a common reaction if certain foods aren't tolerated.

Is this also true if cow's milk yogurt (Dannon Plain Natural) was used

as the starter for goat's milk yogurt?

If you make 24 yogurt then yes all the casein will be denatured. If

using Dannon as starter: then for 1 litre (quart) of goat milk you'll

need 1/4 c of dannon yogurt . You'l have denatured cow casein (the

amount from 1/4 C) and denatured goat casein (the amount that was in 1

litre/1 quart).
