Guest guest
We are currently using Custom Probiotics d-lactate free. I suspect this stuff might be part of his bowel problems since we have been on it forever. Is there a protocol for coming off this type of probiotic? I would like to try the scd probiotic posted on the board. Not sure of the best way to transfer. Currently, he is taking 1/2 teaspoon per day. I reduced this from 1 teaspoon per day slowly over 7 days. we do not use the yoghurt yet. Still very nervous about adding dairy at this point. mother of 5 yrs old SCD June 2006
Guest guest
, I know you are nervous but I want to say...don't be. You will be starting with a VERY small amount, and even if it ends up that he does not tolerate it, dairy leaves the body within four days and does not hang around. That is not so with gluten. There are so many benefits to it, I am not hesitant at all and my son has been dairy free for quite some time now. I'm just waiting for the starter to get here! Sheesh! B. Guest guest
I second that. Don't be afraid of dairy. We were gf/cf/scd for nine months. While it helped allot, the real good stuff came when we added goat yogurt. He is no longer in chronic stomach pain, he actually rarely gets a tummy ache now, and he eats a cup of goat yogurt a day and lots of legal cheese. If he has a bad yeast overgrowth or a stubborn microbial overgrowth it may be best to increase the legal probiotic as you decrease the mixed illegal probiotic from CP. Since the CP is a mixed strain probiotic that *might* help the bifidum from overgrowing completely. The legal probiotics are listed at http://www.pecanbread.com/new/probiotics1.html <<<<<I would > like to try the scd probiotic posted on the board. Not sure of the > best way to transfer. You can use the dairy free starter http://www.pecanbread.com/new/yogurt1.html#start to ferment veggies - this will supply you with more than just the wonderful L. acidophilus found in the probiotic. If you also use active sauerkraut (commercial or homemade) you'll also get L. plantarum. Guest guest
Not Sheila, but you might find some at the health food store. It would need to be refrigerated. It should not be pasteurized. Here is a link to one brand. http://www.rejuvenative.com/index.htm I believe Bubbies Sauerkraut is also live and raw. mom to -12 SCD 4/23/
Guest guest
Hi CD, I live in Canada and there is legal active sauerkraut in the meat section of my grocery store. I don't recall the brand (I make my own). I think " Bubbies " (?) may be the name of one brand....One sec....
