Guest guest
Hello everybody! We just returned from Durham yesterday. Had planned on staying another day but we were flying standby and the flights were booking up fast. I was disappointed that we weren't able to go to clinic on Tuesday and meet the pre-ops and see Dr. R again. What an amazing man! Vicki Amos and I stayed at the Hawthorn and it was great. It is a suite with a kitchenette, full living room and full separate bedroom. They serve a free hot breakfast buffet every morning and have free appetizers every night. Through MedStay it is $55 a night. (Normally $169 a night) It was so nice to Vicki there to share everything with. It is a very emotional time and you have so many questions and don't know what to expect. It helped to have someone else going through it at the same time. We went to the movies 3 times, went to the mall, and went out to eat every day and had a great time. I just could not believe ahead of time that I would feel that good that fast. But it is true. Everyone at DRH was very nice and helpful. I did not run into a rude nurse. I weighed on 3 different scales while there and it was different on each so I am not sure exactly how much I have lost since surgery - but this morning I weighed on my own scales I am down 23 pounds from the last time I weighed at home. So I will take it! My blood sugar is coming down. Before surgery it stayed between 250 and 350 with medication. This morning it was 157 WITHOUT medication!! I am sooo happy! I am off all meds except 2 for my heart. I am eating soups and V8 juice and yogurt. We met Gwen (our angel in Durham) at a wonderful Chinese restaurant and had their hot and sour soup and I think I could live on that! We had the beef vegetable at Bob without the vegetables and it was great. The " walkabout " soup at the Outback was to die for, but there was a lot in it that we did not eat. I still get hungry - but am satisfied quickly when I eat. I have more energy than I have had in 2 years. Not sure how it changes so quickly but you won't hear me complain. This is undoubtedly the best thing I have ever done for myself. I can't wait to see how 2001 will be! Good luck to all the dancers in Durham this week. I am looking forward to hearing from my littermates: Amy Merriman, Dressil, Krieg, Evelyn Briggs and my dear friend Vicki Amos!!
