Hello, I made a recipe last weekend that called for fennel. I used it

because it was in a SCD cookbook, but I tried looking it up on the

legal list and can't find it. Perhaps it is listed under a different

name?? Anyway, just wanting to be sure it is legal.

Thank you so much for your help!

Hi, Cathy,

I noticed a while ago that lots of spices are left off of the

legal/illegal list. I would assume a spice was legal unless it

specifically says it is not. Ground fennel and fennel tea are fine.

Whole seeds might be a problem.

,

Was the recipe calling for fennel as in the vegetable?

That is what I thought she was asking.

Forgot about that kind of fennel. It should be legal even though it's

not on the website. That was the former moderator Patti's take on it a

while ago.

Yes, I REALLY appreciate your responses. I meant " fennel " as these

bulb thingys with long green fronds, found in the produce section of

the grocery store. I'd never even noticed one of these freakish

looking objects before finding this recipe. :~) (What one learns about

in SCD land.....)

Anyway, I made Italian White Bean Soup with Carmelized Fennel. How's

that for a recipe title for a girl who barely knows how to boil water.

I guess we're safe then.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND HELP!

Oops, I see I misread 's post -- (I read forgot as forget!) I am

glad to hear it is legal -- I love that kind of fennel -- and the

soup sounds wonderful...

Fennel the spice is legal. You can grind it to a powder for

recipes. Once you see improvements you can use it crushed.

Fennel the vegetable is legal but it is very fibrous. It should only

be used by those with significant improvements.

Elaine wrote this about Fennel the veggie: " Fresh fennel is similar to

celery and is OK. It is very fibrous and only those who are

practically without symptoms should eat all that fiber. If people

already have a narrowing at the ileum, these stringy and very

fibrous foods can plug them up further. " from
