Guest guest
(Beware, it's a vent --- ) My son has always been texture-boy, but at least he'd still eat. Lately (we're on day 3 of yogurt, week 2 of SCD) his texture thing has gotten worse. I'm tired of cooking 2 meals and lately he's skipping dinner. I was just wondering if ya'll had any advice or any been there/done that to share? He's almost 2 and seems to have more of sensory processing disorder like his dad. It's not strong, but there's signs of it. My husband took an online test and had *alot* of the symptoms. Thanks as always for your support and ideas through the rough first month -
Guest guest
I don't know if your son takes fish oil or not. But my son was really bad with textures in every aspect. Once we started him on fish oil, his issues dramatically decreased. Up until three days before fish oil he couldn't even touch any food with his hands. He would gag at smells and the sight of certain foods. He is much better now but still gives a look of disgust when presented with certain foods. My daughter is also a texture kid, only eats crunchy foods and yogurts. I am slowly easing her into SCD. I was making several meals per meal and it was driving me nuts. Things have gotten better but I know how frustrating this is. The fish oil really worked for us and i had given it to him in hopes of helping with speech issues! (didn't work in that area for us though!) son, 3yo,PDD-NOS, SCD one month today -------------- Original message -------------- (Beware, it's a vent --- ) My son has always been texture-boy, but at least he'd still eat. Guest guest
Thanks - What kind of fish oil are you using? How do you give the oil to your son (directly, pill, mixed in w/something)? I have some Country Life Omega-3 1000mg fish body oil w/EPA and DHA. Would something like this work? Thanks again!
Guest guest
Hi , It could just be a reaction to the yogurt. Some kids as a reaction take a step back. How much yogurt are you giving him per day? Some people take a day break in between days to help with this. B. Guest guest
I don't see why what you have wouldn't work. Our first bottle was just a random bottle my husband bought at Whole Foods. I have tried several brands and my son never had a regression with his sensory issues. No kidding though, three days after starting fish oil and he began self-feeding! Now he can tolerate a lot more textures. Could it also be an oral motor issue? My son had a speech therapist who worked on things like chewing and using a straw about a year ago. His chewing (or lack of chewing) was also contributing to his food problems. I know there are certain therapists who specialize in eating problems. I mix the cod liver oil in his applesauce. His sisters take it off the spoon. I can't vouch for any other CLO but Carlsons has no fishy taste. When I hold up the bottle my kids come running! When I used the pills, I just pierced it with a pin and squeezed it into his applesauce. son,3yo, PDD-NOS, SCD one month today -------------- Original message -------------- Thanks - What kind of fish oil are you using? Guest guest
Hey - We started w/the recommended 1/8 teaspoon a day. His skin and stool doesn't seem effected by it and he acted out a little less today than yesterday. He's always had texture problems, they've just been more pronounced lately. I'll keep that in mind, and if he keeps this up I'll try skipping a day on yogurt.
