Guest guest
Hey yall, I am sending this post to several list, so some of you will get this four times...SORRY. I am six and three-fourth months post op, and I have lost 80 pounds. I was on the Climara estrogen patch for three months, and I got off of it last month. I now have no other problems that I am aware of. I had a voluntary EGD on Monday. I have an erosion at the connection site. It's too small and insignificant to be called an ulcer. A biopsy was done to ascertain the cause. My gastro suspects H. Pylori, but it could also be a reaction to the staples, acid, stress, etc. I DO NOT HAVE BILE REFLUX! He did see some bile floating around in my intestines. But, it was not present in my stomach or esophagus. So, I don't have esophagitis. He may say that I have mild, mild, mild gastritis because of the erosion (pre-ulcer). I already take Prevacid, so he added Carafate. If it is H. Pylori, he will simply add an antibiotic. But, overall my gastric mucosa looked good. It was mostly pink (healthy). The erosion is yellow. Around two of the staples was red (inflamed). I get the results on my next visit on January 8, 2000. For Jude, I still wear an 11/12, and I still wear loose 14's. I am planning to have a breast lift and some lipo and these big AAA Earl saddlebag thighs. So, my next project is plastic. I don't need a TT. All that Pilates paid off. I still teach aerobics three times a week. I haven't decided on a surgeon yet. I have had two consults. So, if anyone knows someone good with LOTS of EXPERIENCE and good outcomes...please advise. I prefer someone who does reductions/lifts in an outpatient setting. Anyway... Have a happy holiday!!!!!! le almost seven months post op v272/192/?...don't know anymore...I wanna keep a soul sister figure. PS Ginny...I can wear a thong now!...in private of course. Guest guest
Thank you for this information. People I have talked to have been unwilling to openly discuss this issue. They just rely on Dr R's statement that there is no extra risk of bile reflux compared to the average person. Other people, including leading medical experts strongly disagree with him. We need to rely on him because to date he has not initiated a study of people who have had the operation over the last three years to gain actual medical proof from EGD's that there is no extra risk of bile reflux. I do not understand this as it is the only thing stopping his new method from becoming the new gold standard of WLS. So everyone who has had a EGD, please post the results, positive and negative. If you have not had one please do so, you will know whether you are at risk of life threatening effects of bile reflux and future MGB's (like me) will have the comfort of knowing that there is no extra risk from complications of bile reflux. thanks phil Update/EGD/etc... I like phil would love to hear more results from EGD's. I am very interested in this particular procedure, and am becoming more and more interested in having it done. But of course I want to hear everything that post op patients are experiencing so those of us who are still undecided can hear Everything! I have known Flo in land for several years, and did not know she was on this list. I was surprised to see her here and VERY impressed with her results from MGB. Please Share! Everything! Guest guest
Not to sound dumb or anything, but can someone tell my what an EGD is? What are they looking for or testing for when they do an EGD? What is involved in the test, ie: how is the test done? Thanks for your time. Guest guest
Sorry, should not have used abbreviations. Procedure Name: Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Synonyms EGD; Esophagogastroduodenoscopy; Basically used to examine throat, stomach and small intestines to check if any problems such as erosions or ulcers. If there are problems, they can take samples and test to see if cancerous etc. Procedure Commonly Includes Direct visual examination of the upper gastrointestinal tract by means of a flexible fiberoptic endoscope (camera). Typically, the procedure is carried out on an awake, but sedated, patient either in a specially equipped endoscopy suite or at the bedside in an intensive care unit. The endoscope is advanced (by mouth) through the oropharynx, oesophagus, stomach, and duodenum. Important anatomic landmarks are identified and mucosal surfaces are examined for suspicious lesions such as ulcers, erosions, polyps, strictures, malignancies, varices, bleeding sites, etc. For more information see http://www.healthgate.com/dph/html/chapter/mono/gi020000.shtml phil Update/EGD/etc... > > >Hey yall, > >I am sending this post to several list, so some of you will get this four >times...SORRY.
