Guest guest
Look Phil, I know for a fact that I have written to you several times. Unwilling to openly discuss the issue??? I am personally offended! While nearly everyone on this list loves Dr. R for " giving them their life back " , no one is willing to back up false claims! Dr. R has asked volunteers to get an endoscopy and several folks have responded, and so far, I have not seen any posts that state that anyone is having any serious bile reflux problems. But even if they were, it's a small price to pay for the benefits of living in a normal size body. I just get the nagging sense that you are digging for something to talk yourself out of having the MGB or WLS altogether. God bless you, I hope you come to the answer that's right for you. As for this becoming the " gold standard " ... who cares? As far as I'm concerned, it's the PLATINUM STANDARD! When people look at me and see the weight loss that has already happened, and they can see with their own eyes that I am eating normally, not vomiting, sick or disabled in any way; with or without words, I've become a proud walking billboard for Dr. Rutledge, the MGB and WLS in general. Read those Christmas Party posts... do you think the sick people stayed home??? NO! The reason all of us weren't there was because we traveled from GREAT distances just to have the opportunity to meet Dr. R and have this life saving surgery. Oh how I wish I could have been there, but I would have had to travel 700 miles! Nevertheless, I want you to arrive at your answers, but somehow, the answer to the question of bile reflux is not what you really want is it? It's like you are standing on a cliff and you are asking someone to tell you if you should jump or not. Well I jumped! I had the MGB! I feel terrific! And thank God for Dr. R. Message: 14 Date: Sun, 24 Dec 2000 12:18:58 +1100 Subject: RE: Update/EGD/etc... Thank you for this information. People I have talked to have been unwilling to openly discuss this issue. They just rely on Dr R's statement that there is no extra risk of bile reflux compared to the average person. Other people, including leading medical experts strongly disagree with him. We need to rely on him because to date he has not initiated a study of people who have had the operation over the last three years to gain actual medical proof from EGD's that there is no extra risk of bile reflux. I do not understand this as it is the only thing stopping his new method from becoming the new gold standard of WLS. So everyone who has had a EGD, please post the results, positive and negative. If you have not had one please do so, you will know whether you are at risk of life threatening effects of bile reflux and future MGB's (like me) will have the comfort of knowing that there is no extra risk from complications of bile reflux. thanks phil __________________________________________________
