Guest guest
When you are trying nut butters in stage two, what is best to start with? I think I read cashews are advanced, but is cashew butter OK? Is almond butter the easiest to digest? Any recipes for baked goods using just the nut butter and no flours? Thank You, Diane D. daughter Crohn's since 6/
Guest guest
Hi, Diane, I would not start with cashew butter because cashews are more starchy. Pecan butter would be the easiest to digest (hence our name!). You can substitute nut butter for nut flour in any recipe for baked goods. Most of us use a one-to-one substitution. Donna, the Cooking Woman, substitutes equal weights. mom to -12 SCD 4/23/

Guest guest
Diane, I am not sure what week you are in. I think you are vegetarian? I guess I would just try to take the foods that you think taste good and try to make them scd legal. I bought my first slices of prociutto today. I almost gaged as I ate it just as it was. But then I cooked it on the stove, and found a really great bacon! I have never known what prociutto was before now! Keep trying different meats and different ways to cook it, mixing flavors...slice some pork thin and simmer in applejuice and put over sautee'd spinich with baked apples. Eating a bite of pork with cinnamon and apple may disquise the smell and taste for you. Depending on what diet you came from before scd could make it very hard. Hang in there. As everyone has mentioned it takes some getting used to cooking this way. Luckily there is a ton of support as I have learned, which has making it sooooo much easier. Guest guest
One more question about nut butters! I'm just trying to plan ahead and get supplies for when we can add nut butters. I saw macadamia nut butter at our health food store. Is this nut butter considered a more advanced food? Thank you, Diane D. 11yd dx Crohn's 6/07 SCD day 3! Guest guest
Hi, Diane, You want to get a variety of peeled, cooked, de-seeded fruits and veggies into his diet first. I guess we don't really consider nut butter " advanced " but it is definitely advanced compared to day 3! :-) mom to -12 SCD 4/23/
Guest guest
HI Diane, > > One more question about nut butters! > I'm just trying to plan ahead and get > supplies for when we can add nut butters. > I saw macadamia nut butter at our > health food store. When you are ready to add them below is the order of easiest to hardest. Some are grouped because they are close in digestibility. Also, within groups the nuts easiest to digest may vary according to the person. Other factors: allergies and sensitivities. Don't eat any nuts which have triggered anaphylactic reactions in the past. Some people have to avoid certain foods like high salicylate foods - this type of reaction often improves as the body heals with SCD. 1. pecan butter or blanched almond butter 2. blanched hazelnut butter, walnut butter, macadamia nut butter 3. unblanched almond butter 4. cashew butter (fairly advanced- has some starch) Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 23yrs, PCOD 22yrs mom of and (there are probably more types of nut butters but my kids are going bonkers behind me (it is only 6 am!) - they are very excited about tonight. If you think of another I can let you know where it fits)
