Guest guest
Ok, I read the rules about introing before replying to posts, but still pushing limits, I posted anyway in the last week or so. This should tell you something about what kinds of questions you'll get from me: " I read the book, scoured pecanbread site, but why this and why that. " I am so glad to have read already great respones to annoying questions like I plan to pose at some point-LOL. So, here is my intro: *It is long- this is why I've waited-LOL. I was introduced to SCD via Natasha -McBride at the WAPF Nourishing Traditions Conference this year. I bought her book Gut-Psychology Syndrome in which she gives full credit to Dr. Haas and Elaine for SCD as well as strongly encorages readers of her book to buy BTVC. What caught my attention was that I already knew wheat and most dairy made Truman, 7 yr old Mr. Sensory Guy, " cranky " . He has never been diagnosed formally, but our ST thought surely he'd be on the spectrum when she first met him shortly after his first DPT at age 2 ( we delayed or did not do most vax). When he went to tube weaning clinic at age 2.5- tons of therapists, we were told to explore PDD, watch for signs, and be prepared for a diagnosis. Tru's developmental doctor never gave him a label as we were not utilizing services through the school district; then our dev doc moved out of state- I didn't jive with the new one who took over about 2 years ago ( " You wouldn't consider putting your son on Pharmeceuticals, would you? " ) However, without an official label, I just call him Mr. Sensory when describing his condition. When all is better in the gut region ie no wheat, additives, and chemicals, Truman is less Sensory. He has alot of coping mechanisms and tries really hard to keep it together. I am very proud of him. I also feel for how much he has to try to just get along. When I read Natasha's book, pieces of the puzzle came together for me to help Truman using SCD. Also, reading along Gut-Pshychology- I also found some things to click with my husband's health issues. We call it " gut-ley " , and this condition is not fun or pretty. Frequent headaches, weird bowel issues, and overall foggy thinking resulting from food intake. , hubby, is sensitive to pasteurized milk products, wheat, tomoatoes, most preservatives and colors. Also, reading gut/psych book, I understood some of hubby's childhood issues of night terrors and behavioural issues. His family practically lived on Dominos pizza, processed junk, sugar. Poor hubby doesn't eat until late in the day because he cannot function once he eats- even eating our tradiitonal diet soaked oatmeal, raw cream and butter for breakfast. had a big improvement last year after seeing a new chiro who pointed toward a leaky gut with yeast issues and put him on a cleanse type of diet which came close to SCD in hindsight! So, since mid-November , I have been reading, researching SCD for my family- esp Tru and . Tossing out little tidbits to hubby. I think I've read Elaine's bit about " fanatical adherence " more than twice to hubby. He assures me he is in for it and hopeful for some healing that lasts. However, the little critters in his gut have heard us talking and are demanding one last Snicker's binge along with some grainy/grainy binges-LOL. I thought we'd begin SCD before Christmas, but our food stash of illegals was more than I thought. So, this is me: Joy, mom to 3 boys - first year homeschooling, scrapbooking, new Creature in Christ, health " nut " . We live on a ranch in a barnhouse in East Texas. I am hoping to learn to batch cook with SCD. Anyone do this? I will need support and have looked at utilising a counselor listed on pecanbread. Anyone used an SCD counselor? I bought 2 gallons of milk yesterday to start with yogourmet starter in my ExCalibur. I purchased some almond flour from Lucy. Attempted ketchup yesterday ( too runny-LOL). I think I am being a little perfectionistic about getting going maybe? New territory, worried about being able to be fanatical in adhering. Gut-Psychology book seems even stricter than BTVC. Yikes. Thanks for reading. I look forward to being an official member of the group! Gotta run- trust me I could go on and on-LOL. Joy

Guest guest
Good morning and welcome. We started last year - the day after New Years Day was our starting point - the family knew that we were headed for that goal and what ever " illegals " were not used up by then went out of the house on Jan 2. So yes we kind of binged between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Though the rule was: We could eat it if it was already in the house, but we could not buy any new illegals to bring into the house - we could only use up what we already had which I think helped us get rid of illegals without feeling like we were throwing out food/money. On Jan 2 I sacked up unopened items and took them to work and gave them away. Opened items were thrown out. We could not " cheat " if it was not even in the house. SCD 1-2-07 W. - age 45 doing it because it is a healthy way to eat. Zachariah - age 13, severe Dyslexia & Dysgraphia , some Aspergers & ADHD characteristics, Ed - age 45, IBS, Fibro, Kidney disease, Familial Tremors, low IGG,

I read about Dr. -McBride's book on the internet, was going to buy it, somehow linked over to something about BTVC, and joined that day. I was hooked. It was right before Halloween, so I gave my kids that. We started a few days later. It's hard at first but it does ease up. I am sure I've asked more than my share of annoying questions, but how else will I learn? Don't be afraid to ask. I personally have made a lot of mistakes so far doing this diet, but still consider myself fanatical and still consider I've learned a ton. I look at it as a process. This month I'm farther along than I was a month ago. Next month, I hope to be more 'together' with the diet than I am now. It's like learning a dance. I'm feeling clumsy right now with the steps, but I know (from other 'dances' I've learned in the past) that I will 'get' this dance, and I will enjoy it if I keep practicing. Hope that gives you a little encouragement, Cathe, yeast overgrowth, mom to: 15ys ASD, OCD, bipolar 10ys ADHD, bipolar 6ys NT, severe constipation All SCD since 11/4/2007
