Guest guest
Hi, Tina, I'm sorry you're finding all the recipes you have made unappealing. Sandy has given you some good advice--look for a post with the subject Re: Nut Butter and it begins, " Hi, Diane " . To help us out, if you reply to a post with a related question, please delete non-essential parts of the original post or at least hit the enter key a couple of times to create some space. I think the lack of space was why Sandy thought you were Diane. Also, if you could start a new post with a more to-the-point subject line, it will help further archive searches--the topic " sensitive to smells " won't be hiding under " nut butter " . I'm stabbing in the dark here, because I don't know what smells good or bad to you. If you make soup and puree it, the meat will be more hidden. If you season things with a spice that does smell good to you that might help. Maybe you could hide things you know you need to eat but don't like the smell of in pancakes, smoothies, or popsicles. Maybe, as Sandy said, you could start with something you like and transform it a bit to be SCD legal. I think her fruit and pork idea is a great one. That's all I can think of without really knowing what you like and dislike. mom to -12 SCD 4/23/
Guest guest
Sorry , I am new to this, and I actually just been using my email, maybe I am doing this wrong? I will share with you that I cooked chicken in the crock pot with carrots. I wasn't home to eat it, but my husband said it was good. Then I took the chicken and followed the chicken cupcake receipe. is was so horrible. I thought something so simple, but yuck. Mabye it was the cooked chicken, cooked again. Alot of the receipes are so vague, that it just said chicken. Maybe it should of been raw chicken. I also did the avacado meatloaf and it just tasted like plain hamburg. I think its just my issues. I had tried some of that all natural lunch meat and coudln't eat for a few days. But thanks for you help!!! Guest guest
Tina, You may want to try doing a meatloaf with carrots and zucchini (peeled, sliced and pureed or just cooked and pureed as long as your gut can handle it), egg and salt in your ground meat. Everyone who has tasted it loved it whether on SCD or not. I hate zucchini, but it really fills out the empty flavor of the meat. The carrots add a little flavor too. I end up using about 1 zucchini (I get the ones under 10 inches as the seeds are smaller so I don't have to de-seed it) per lb of meat and a little less than a lb of carrots. I'm not a big measurer of ingredients, sorry. One lb of carrots when you have the big ones like me ends of being 3 or 4 carrots. Just an idea if it helps. I was making burgers out of it but decided that was too much work and just made big meatloaves out of it. I make 6-8 lbs at a time with 6-8 zucchinis and a 5 lb bag of carrots. Guest guest
Hi, Tina, This post was a lot easier to follow. Thanks! It is true that the recipes can be vague, but they are also forgiving- -by which I mean that substituting and using more or less of some ingredient usually works, too. And, no, I don't think the chicken cupcake recipe calls for raw chicken. I think your tastes may change over time. It does happen. There was no way I would have given spaghetti squash and presented it as " the same " as his old favorite spaghetti noodles early in the diet. But with time, tastes change. He still remembers the pasta fondly but also can enjoy the spaghetti squash for what it is. Maybe keeping it simple for a while would be best--plain meat and two cooked veggies will taste like plain meat and two cooked veggies always did (except one of them will not be a potato). mom to -12 SCD 4/23/
Guest guest
Hi julie, thanks!! I havent read the book yet. My mom bought it for me for X mas. But As of Nov 1, we took all the bad food away from our son. So thats how I got lead to pecanbread. But his diet is very vague. I was doing some things with pb, but then I had heard it feeds yeast. But he has had major die off with all this. I just took fruit away, so I am gearing for the Chicken soup next week. I know if tells in the book ,but why is grape juice legal. And should it be just a little amount or unlim? I still use a little of propel water to dilute water for his supplements. > Hi, Tina, > This post was a lot easier to follow. Guest guest
Yep I am aware, just don't know what else to use. He will not drink plain water and will just let the supplements sit. Guest guest
Tina, Generally when using the grape juice in the beginning it should be diluted half with water. The reason it is OK is because easy to digest sugars such as those in grape juice are digested immediately. So they don't hang around in the digestive tract to feed gut bugs. Why don't you try diluted grape juice for his supplements? The propel ingredients will slow or stop your progress. B. Guest guest
Hi, Tina, It is not part of SCD to remove all fruit. Please read the book Breaking the Vicious Cycle as soon as possible and also spend time reading all the great information on the site www.pecanbread.com. It seems you are very concerned about yeast. Hear is the pecanbread link to our approach to yeast: http://www.pecanbread.com/new/yeast.html Please sign all posts at the bottom with your name, your child's name and age and issues, and how long he has been on SCD (when he starts). That will help us help you more. Also, do trim off previous posts that you are responding to, except for a few lines that help us know what was being discussed. I'm going to be out of town with very little computer access until Sunday, but Sheila will be here, as will many other experienced members. Guest guest
Hi Tina, > <<<<but why is grape juice legal. And should it be just a little > amount or unlim?>>>> Grape juice is legal because the natural sugars are simple sugars (monosaccharides) that are readily absorbed by the body. They don't require further digestiona dn can't be used by (most) microbes. Grape juice should be diluted to at least 50% water at the onset of the diet. <<<<<I still use a little of propel water to dilute > water for his supplements.>>>>> What flavour? we may be able to come up with a legal substitute. Guest guest
Hi Tina, -- In pecanbread , " adtahoe " wrote: > I was using the lemon flavor propel, just a smidge to top of the > water.>>>>> You may have to fiddle with the ingredients a bit to get the right balance. Here are the ingredients of the Lemon Propel: http://www.bevnet.com/reviews/propel_fitness_water/facts.asp " Water, sucrose syrup, natural lemon flavor with other natural flavors, citric acid, sodium citrate, potassium citrate, sucralose, vitamin C, vitamin E acetate, niacinamide, calcium disodium EDTA, calcium pantothenate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, acesulfame potassium, vitamin B12. " You could try some fresh squeezed lemon juice (strain out the pulp), honey syrup (heat honey in water on stove) and a pinch of salt. If theis isn't close enough try a pinch of baking soda also. If he still won't accept this mix to dilute his supplement water you can gradually switch the propel over to this. Start with 10- 25% of the legal mix to 75-90% of the propel, then after a couple of days go to ~40- 50% legal lemon mix to 50-40% propel. Continue to gradually increase the legal lemon mix until it is 100% legal lemon.
