" I have a daughter that tries to make stuff for me, even though I tell her, she doesn't listen. I would rather not eat, but mostly I plan on food I can eat and all is well. " I have family members that try to cook for me, but they have usually contaminated it in some way. Then they are frustrated because they went to all this effort and I won't eat it. I think they are mainly frustrated because they don't understand that a little can hurt, and see me as a troublemaking drama queen. It's hardest on my grandmother, who just can't read labels. I've basically just told her, if it has a label to read, I can't have it. People are funny about food. My daughter had a couple of food sensitivies early on and if I had a nickel for every time someone asked me can she just have a little? ... oh, just a little won't hurt..... My favorite though: (she was sensitive to bananas - made her throw up several times) Well, can she have banana chips? People just don't give a second's thought to what they are eating or feeding others. I'll bet your family members have favorite foods and would not like someone else to mess with them. Be strict! Elaine Gottschall stated that SCD demands " Fanatical Adherence. " The requirement for strictness is due to the fact that we are fighting hardy microorganisms that have an amazing ability to survive. One crumb of the wrong food feeds thousands of harmful bacteria for a month, and continues the cycle of destruction. Here is the explanation we use for children about SCD. I your kin are going to behave like kids maybe they need kid type instructions. http://www.pecanbread.com/new/Humorous.htm If you are healthy, fit and strong like your signature implies, than you will have the courage to take charge. Now forgive them and smarten them up and a happy holiday to all of them. I hope I haven't offended you but if it helps you get better, that's OK.
