Have anybody consider Acupuncture?

I know that you are trying to find anything that will

help your son. But trying everything at once is a

sure-fire way to never know if any one thing is

helping your son.

You are on the diet. That is a good thing. Learning

about probiotics and the yogurt is another good thing.

But you have to give it all some time to work. You

already are having some promising signs. Try to focus

on that. Doing SCD is hard enough on its own.

Introducing one new food every four days is also a

good thing to do.

I guess what I'm saying is try to relax and be

thankful that you are already seeing progress! There

is no magic supplement or procedure that will heal the

gut and fix it all. It took time to do all the damage

from the UC. It will take time to undo it as well.

That's right, :o) I am trying everything, because I can for now. My

mother was fighting for my life (I had experimental heart surgery

when I was 1 year old with no promises and life limit to 14 years

old), so... I do not think acupuncture will hurt, but my first thing -

do not hurt! that's why I am asking all these questions. Also, I

read Elain's answer on Healing Crow to one man that SCD is not 100%,

maybe I did not understand, but it was a little discouraging.

However, I am not stopping and going to continue with SCD, I think it

works (I have many Docs friends around me, my mom is ENT doctor as

well and it was hard to keep with diet and explain everybody that I

am not hurting my baby)

But, I can do it... :o) any help is appreciated!! If there are any

SCD supporters in GI world, who live around ville, FL, please

let me know.

Thank you for good thoughts and support,

I'm not sure who said that to you, but I really do

think that SCD is a 100 percent answer for things like

UC. For autism, I'm not sure. For rheumatoid

arthritis, I'm not sure either. I am using it for both

of those things, though, and I am having very

encouraging results!

I am just cautioning you because I see that you are

doing SCD...and adding probiotics...and considering

switching your son's meds...and adding other

alternative therapies. With the drug therapies, it's

very important to be able to evaluate what's going on.

You won't know if switching medication harms or helps

if you are also in the midst of food testing.

I think you should treat everything you do as a new

food. When you add the probiotic, you should have not

added a new food for four days prior. If you do talk

to your son's doctor and switch medications, do the

same thing -- nothing new for four days prior, and

then take four days to evaluate the medication, just

as you would with food. Give yourself time. Otherwise

you will end up needing to take frustrating steps back

as you try to figure out what went wrong, or right as

the case may be.

So I am not saying you should not be trying

everything. But don't rush it.

, I completely agree, " turtle wins the race... " :o). The reason

I want to switch meds, is because I do not see Rowasa is helping and

Elaine liked azulfidine better, so I do not know. I will introduce

new food to him today, probably butternut squash. I think it'll be OK?

Thank you,

Hi ,

I have to disagree with some of the other posters. We tried acupuncture at the

same time as Prendisone, the SC diet and probiotics. I don't know exactly what

worked nor do I care. What I do know is that, in tandem, we brought my daughter

back to good health (and the dr. told me it was " a miracle " that she made it

through with her colon). She didn't need surgery and is now a healthy, normal

kid who takes one prescription med a day and is on the SC diet. We gradually

weaned off the acupuncture, but it was a big help when she was sick, and I like

knowing it's " in our back pocket " if we should need it again.

Good luck in finding what works for your son.

Dear Ellen, this is exactly what I want to hear.. :o) My acupuncture

doc said that he will do it for 3 months and then we would do another

colonoscopy to see the result. He also is going to use " catgut " , have

you heard about it, or did you do that?

Thanks,

, son 10 years old, UC

Haven't tried it for UC. However, I can say that

it really and seriously helped the shoulder that

Mr. Shadow injured hunting down the rats in our

collapsed garage after Hurricane Katrina. Through

the Veterinary acupuncturist, I found a good

human acupuncturist to do work on my hips, knees

and ankles, which have been giving me grief for

years. Water therapy helped a great deal, but the

hips, especially, would wake me in the middle of

the night, and both knees and ankles had a

penchant for giving way just as I would commit my

weight to them. Hence the cane I walk with.

There are several points which he has me doing

acupressure on each night before I go to bed

which are supposed to help the IBS, and I have noted an improvement.

Since going to the acupuncturist, which, is

common with so many of our other " alternative "

treatments, is not covered by my insurance, I've

actually been sleeping through the night. And

waking up NOT in pain... it's a luxury beyond belief!

Most people do very well with the butternut squash. Of

course my son was the oddball. LOL. He didn't really

like it, and then had an explosive and very orange BM!

So oh well. No go for him at this point.

I personally am on azulfidine (sulfasalazine) but I am

concerned as the tablets I take are full of corn

starch. I am not sure if I could go to a compounding

pharmacy. I should probably look into that. It's a

cheap drug so I figure compounding it might not be

costly? I am fairly low income so SCD by itself is a

bit of a struggle at times.

Good luck!
