Guest guest
Well we finally did it. Today was my son's first day on the intro diet. He is seven has autism and is non-verbal. Today went really well. Just one meltdown when he wanted chips and I said we didn't have any. For breakfast he had cooked pureed carrots with some chicken broth in it.I also put cod liver oil and one capsule of Klaire acidophilus in it. For lunch he had boiled chicken breast with lots of celtic salt. The only thing he had to drink today was water with lemon and stevia sweetener. He had a late lunch so for dinner he just had some more of the carrots with another Klaire acidophilus capsule in it and more lemon water. As you can see he's not a big eater but tomorrow he will have a broiled turkey burger. We've stopped all his supplements except for the cod liver oil and acidophilus which he has been getting all along. Our reason for going on the diet is to finally get his yeast issues resolved and hopefully his stimming. I am anxious to move to stage 1 but I don't want to have to backtrack. I have already cooked and pureed all the stage 1 fruits and vegetables and even some squash and pumpkin. (I will stay away from bananas because of the yeast). My freezer is packed with all my portioned out zip locks. So here is my question, since Joey is non-verbal and can't tell me how he feels, how do I judge how long to keep him on the intro diet? I know that you always say slow and steady but I don't want to keep him on the intro for an extended number of days if it's not necessary. He's being pretty cool about all the carrots but he's got to be thinking " Okay lady, what's with all the carrots, enough already "

Guest guest
His first words were " not again " ?? Too funny! My son is three and nonverbal but is now trying to talk after about five weeks on SCD. He started out with some sounds, then moved to animal sounds and now short words like " me " and " are " . He even tried to say " good morning " back to me today! I can't believe how far he has come in the last few weeks! For some reason he isn't tired of his limited food yet. I think I am the only one it bothers! I think this diet has helped with his yeast issues as his stimming is just about nonexistent now. I think what is there is more of a reflex than anything else because if I tell him " quiet hands " he just stops like it was no big deal. This diet has already changed his life. I just wish there was more press out there on SCD for autistic kids. I'm off to make more chicken!! son, 3yo, PDD-NOS, SCD since 11/20/07 -------------- Original message -------------- hi, just read your email you're doing well my son is seven and has autism too he is finally saying words as a result of scd and i started scd for the same reasons 3 months ago as to your question about the intro we did 5 days and judged it my shane's stools they went really loose then firmed up also increae in appetite he was eating us out of houseand home his first words were not again refering to yet another chicken pancake, also we found butternut sqaush really fed our sons yeast so now avoid it best wishes melissaxx mother to shane autism 7years old scd three months --- maureenfem wrote: > Well we finally did it. Guest guest
Hi Maureen, For kids, they shouldn't be on the intro too long. My son was only on it for two days. After that, you can start the slow and steady introduction of foods. Eileen says to wait 2-4 days. We do four days in between each food, sometimes longer. B. Guest guest
Thanks for all the info. I had read that Elaine wasn't a big fan of stevia but that we could use it in limited amounts. Because of his yeast issues, I didn't want to give him juice (even if it was watered down) and I could no longer give him his Propel Fitness water (not legal) so we decided to try stevia. Bad mistake Joey used it for just three days and this morning at 5:45 he turned into a little geyser. Boy did that kid throw up. Now it could either be the lemon juice or the stevia. We've decided to discontinue the stevia For the rest of the day we gave him watered down Welch's white grape juice (didn't want to give a throwing up kid purple juice.) I then went to Walgreen's and bought 2 bottles of Necta Sweet saccharin tablets. We'll try this with the lemon juice. If he still has problems then we'll know that we'll just have to stick to the juice. I wish that he would just drink water. Also we didn't know that buternut squash was yeasty so we'll probably have to skip that too. I hope all the moms of kids with autism keep posting their childrens progress. It really gives me hope when I hear your stories. But keep posting the problems too as we all learn from each other. I always put the word autism in all my posts so that if anyone does a search using that word all my posts will come up and maybe help someone elses child out. I'm hoping that everyone would do that as these kids have whole additional set of issues. Although I learn a lot from everyone on the sight, I still seek out the autism posts. Today was day two of the intro diet and other than the early morning throwing up the day went pretty well. Our biggest problem is Joey asking for his GF chips and pretzels. Thanks to someones posting on celtic salt, they solved my problem. When he asks for them I tell him we don't have anyone. He throws a fit. I tell him that if he behaves then he can have some salt. Fit ends, he behaves, and I just sprinkle some salt on a plate. Problem solved. Now if we could just cut out that middle step where he has a fit! > > Well we finally did it.
