Guest guest
Hi, I hate to sound like a broken record but I really need support and information regarding how to work the food intros during my taper. How will I know it's a too fast taper vs. a intolerated food? Anyone had experience with this part of SCD? I was so anxious to get off Pred last time that I went too fast and didn't do as well on the intro fods (had a very limited diet that didn't work for me). I was wondering if I should stick to stages 1-3 all and stay away from raw foods until several months of remission after the Pred is out of my system? I was also thinking it might make sense when I go down a dose to keep new foods out until my body has time to adjust to the lower Pred (but how long I wonder?) Any stories would be helpful! Guest guest
Hi! I don't know how much this will help, but I'll give you my two cents... A little background on me...I have had Rheumatoid Arthritis for 10 years and have been on Prednisone almost as long. I have been able to drop all my other meds except the pred, but am now down to 4mg per day. I had even gone down to zero but am having problems with my feet and elbows so it is back. All I can say is to taper very, very slowly and stick with the early foods as long as you can. (I am in week 3 of SCD for my son.) I was going to go SCD along with him and wimped out but am starting this week, as my unhappy tummy and joints have given me no other option. Can you get your prescription in 1mg increments? I would taper by .5 to 1 mg and give each reduced level a full week or two to make sure that your body is doing what it needs to do. I was able to do this without an RA flare even after being on pred for years. If you taper slowly and eat earlier stage foods, I think you'll be able to taper without hurting. Even though I am not full SCD yet, we are getting pretty used to the early stage foods in our house and could hover here for a while if need be. We could hover here together. Gotta love the purees! lol I hope you feel better soon! All my best,
Guest guest
liz, HI, You sound like you are in the same situation as I am, although I have only been on the diet a month. I am also starting the diet with weaning off prednizone. I've started the diet at my high dose of 40, and am at 20 which is still kind of a high dose. I usually start to flare though around 15 or 10. I have been sticking to eggs, zucchini, cooked carrots and cooked beans, little amounts of squash and cooked spinich, nut flour, meat, cheese, yougurt, and cooked apples, and cooked pears..lots of soup. I was going to stick with these foods unti I have weaned off of the prednizone. I don't think we can really tell what foods would bother us until we are off of it. So it'd be safe to stay in the first stages don't you think even though you have been on the diet longer, you kinda are at the same place with healing??? The prednizone is such a powerful masker of health. There were times when I would eat bowlfuls of poporn and be fine.....of course I could never get off of the prednizone either. This time I am being fanatic about staying on the diet and not rushing. I think it'd be good advice to you to not be going into raw foods at all until you are off of the prednizone and months of healing has taken place. unfortunatley I don't have any stories...but I am right there with you so I know what you are going through!!!!! sandy uc since 2004 scd 1 month liz kapitulik wrote: Hi, I hate to sound like a broken record but I really need support and information regarding how to work the food intros during my taper. Guest guest
Liz, It depends on how fast you taper. Treat each taper like a food introduction. So, when you are about to taper, do not introduce anything new for the four days before the taper. Then do not introduce anything new for the four days after the taper. That is what I would do. But are you back to the intro? I'm not sure where you are on the SCD. I don't think you were totally on SCD were you? B.
