Guest guest
There was an interview/article on the net that said that SCD was a bad choice...the comments were by the nutritionist who wrote Feast without yeast and a couple other titles? Anybody know about this doctor and understand why he is so hostile to this diet approach...his cookbook had many things in it I wish I could make for my son, but BTVC spells out why I cannot....so confused and wish my son would EAT. Guest guest
Hi Diane I have the book and that was the last diet that we tried and " failed " on. We bought the book because Dr. Crook , Dr. Shaw, and Dr. Bernard Rimland all gave it good reviews. His premise was meat rots in the intestines and produces a more toxic effect on the system so it more harmful to the system. I think that might be why he is down on SCD. He used some meat, but very little overall. Yes, we were thrilled to make beans and rice but I didn't see any improvements in " stimming " and behaviors. We also got night wakings back so we have decided to try SCD. We have seen improvements on gluten free but dairy free didn't seem to make a difference. We did these things 6 months apart. We also tried the Body Ecology diet and failed to get my children to eat cultured veggies. My picky eater can't stand vegetables and only wanted to eat the allowed grains (millet, quiona). We might have been able to stay on it with my other two children, but was impossible with it. They did drink the coconut kefir that is made on the diet which is different than the yogurt on SCD. We were reluctant to do the SCD at first because we thought it might be bad without the yogurt for the kids. We're now thinking since we never saw a major difference with milk removal, we will give them some SCD yogurt when we begin the intro this week. We will not add any other dairy product at this time. Feast without Yeast was an inexpensive diet with lots of carbs. That was the plus, I guess. My son and I both suffer from hypogylcemia and intense carbohydrate cravings so I think it " just added fuel to our fire " . I'm guessing it worked for some people since it has all the great reviews, but in our case we saw losses not gains. I really hope we do well on SCD. My son and I, in particular, are very yeasty and suffered from chronic constipation. My other two are yeasty but don't have the same intense bowel issues as we do. We have resolved our constipation in the past couple of weeks. I'm trying to not to be scared that it will come back! It is interesting to note that Dr. Sermon's son was used at the example in the book. On the Feast without Yeast, he did become a happy thriving child again but never regained speech. He didn't explain what happened with that. Has anyone regained speech using SCD or is that something that diet alone can't help? My youngest son Aidan is speeched delayed and I'm hoping with natural antifungals and diet we can bring it about. He is vocalizing just not using words. I hope this helps! > There was an interview/article on the net that said that SCD was a bad > choice...the comments were by the nutritionist who wrote Feast without > yeast and a couple other titles?
