Dec. 29th Surgery

I had my surgery on Friday, 12-29-00. My husband and I arrived at

the hospital about 9:00 because my surgery was scheduled for 1:00. I

had to complete my paperwork, get weighed, etc. When I was carried

back to the holding area, I kept dosing off before I even took my

knock-out medicines. I have no idea what happened between that time

and waking up in recovery. The first thing I did was panic because

the tube was still in my throat. I tried to push it out with my

tongue, so don't even try it...it doesn't work. They took the tube

out and I was thinking about giving them a piece of my mind for

putting that tube in before I was good and out cold. Then a friendly

nurse walked up and said, " Your surgery was a success; we'll be

sending you to your room in a few more minutes. "

I thought, " What surgery???? These people up here must be

fruitcakes. I am having this surgery. I didn't come up here to play

games. " Then I felt the bandages on my stomach and re-evaluated the

situation. My next thought was, " Yeah, baby...I'm a post-op. Go

Kristy...Go Kristy....Go Kristy!!!!

Everything else is a blur. I slept the rest of the day, all night,

and all the way back to Lumberton. My stomach was really sore. It

hurt worse than too many sit-ups. I felt sorry for myself for

awhile. The sleepiness really annoyed me. I wanted to be 100%

alert, but it was impossible. I just could not stay awake. I woke

up this morning about 9:00 feeling better and more alert. Yesterday

I would probably say, " I wouldn't do that again in a million years. "

Now I realize, it really isn't that bad. I have had two c-sections,

broken ribs, etc. and it certainly doesn't hurt like those

problems. Just expect not to feel like running a marathon for the

first 48 hours. After that, you should probably feel normal.

I'll keep all of you updated. Thanks for all you have done.
