Tricia,

Not to jump in here, but I will, ;). I just thought I would share info about a

book called Medications and Mother's Milk but Dr. Hale. He has done

actual studies testing breastmilk and how the medication passes through plus how

much a baby actually gets when consuming breastmilk. I would highly suggest

checking this book out in regards to what meds you need to be taking. I have

some medical problems and thought I couldn't breastfeed because of the meds I

HAD to take in order to walk. Once I researched and found the few doctors who

are actually testing breastmilk I found that I could and my daughter wouldn't be

affected, and I have to take some heavy duty pain medication (methadone) daily!

I had my daughter tested at 10 days old and she did not test positive for any of

the narcotic pain medication that I was taking so that meant that none was

passing through my breastmilk. I just thought I would share in case you didn't

know.

RE: ADD/ADHD/Oppositional Kids

Ellen, thanks for the post about your child. My daughter Alyssa is

ADHD/ODD, we struggle daily and she is only 5 (in two weeks). I fear

when she hits her teens! But I know it can work out, even when not

properly diagnosed as all the research since Alyssa we have discovered I

am ADHD too (just diagnosed this summer). Not all ADHD kids become

violent some turn inward and depressed which is what I did, but thanks

to a loving family and friends I managed to grow up to be fairly stable

holding the same job for 18yrs etc. Not that I didn't go through some

rough patches with some attempted suicides and drugs due to the low self

esteem and depression, but thanks to God I survived and am a fairly

responsible adult. I am missing my meds right now because my emotions

are all over the place, but I know it is just temporary until I am done

bf, but it will be a long 9 months +.
