Carol please be careful for having the attitude that you cannot gain weight from

eating food. You probably can gain weight. Just because you cannot eat that much

food at one time does not mean that you cannot pick up bad habits such as

grazing (eating little amounts all day long constantly) or falling into drinking

high calorie liquids or drinking with your meals which will push food through

and allow you to eat more. I am six years out and it is possible to gain with

this surgery.

I do want however to heartily welcome you to this list and wish you the best of

luck with your baby wishes!

Welcome Carol!! I'm LDS also and am 18 weeks pregnant with my 1st. I'm

very very excited!

It's so much fun looking pregnant than " heavy " - I love it. People are

noticing more and more now that I'm an expecting mom and not just BIG. It's

great.

Good Luck! I'm looking forward to getting to know you more.

Thanks for the words of advise. Its always nice to be made feel

welcome on a new group with a post.

Silly me thought this was an Australian site.... the girl who gave me

I live on the Central Coast of New South Wales in Australia... an

Alaska sounds interesting. Its always the places and countries in

Dear Nina,

I am quite sure no-one here would feel insulted! It is great that

you have sought help for your condition. Fingers crossed that it is

not cancer as there are other things it could be I guess. Let us

know how you get on as there are many helpful people here to talk

to. Also, there is a lot of information on this site if you look

around.

I found this site very informative too: www.cancerbacup.org.uk

Good luck with the colonoscopy,

Nina,

I hope you just have a diverticulitus or something and

not cancer, but on the good side: if the doctor does

not see the cancer in a sigmoscope, that means it is

farther away from the anus and those patients with

cancer further from the anus or ructum have less

problems and I think less recurrance than close.

If it is cancer it is a fairly common (not painless

but common) surgery to cut it our and then do

prophalactic chemotherapy.

Just make sure it has not already spread to the liver

or the lungs. If that happens then you are a stage 4

and people don't want to talk to you.

Good luck. Don't worry, Be happy.

Dear Len.

Thank you for your post.

Do you know if colitis, diverticulitis and Crohns show up in a blood

test? My blood test was fine, and although the doctor didn't talk to

me directly during my sigmoidoscopy, (why would he, I was just an anus

to him) I did hear him mutter to his colleague that the mucus was

normal.

I find myself wondering all sorts of things at the moment. I am an

analytical person by nature and have been thinking about tumours and

the kind of bleeding they can produce. Would it be bloody streaks like

I had, or is the bleeding more profuse and therefore undoubtedly

something more serious.

My consultant told me he thinks I have a lesion, whatever that may be.

Hi again Nina,

I see from other posts that you are in Norfolk; we are in Devon.

IF you do have CC (obviously I hope that you don't) then you will be

able to call CancerBACUP's information service for advice and copies

of their booklets. tel.020 7739 2280 or Freephone 0. You

can read their booklets online but it is easier to have the paper

version I think.

One of my grandmothers also died of Bowel Cancer but my other

grandmother had surgery for the same thing about 5 years ago and

there has been no reoccurance. She is 90yrs old now so it shows it

can be beaten!

My husband had surgery in October for a Stage III cancer and has had

2 out of his 12 chemotherapy treatments. He recovered from the

surgery very fast, pretty much back to normal within the 6 weeks

post-op; it is the chemo that brings him down a bit. I just mention

it in case your condition requires surgery, to tell you not to

worry. He was out of hospital in 5 days!

We found it very difficult waiting for the tests and the results.

Try not to get too frightened, keep busy, share your concerns with

your friends and feel free to post here. It is better that someone

should ask questions and not have cancer than to feel unable to and

miss something. Garbled but I hope you see what I mean!

Take care,

Fran

Dear Fran.

Thank you so much for your very reassuring post. I wish you and your

husband all the best.

I do in fact feel a lot more positive about tomorrow. Thank you again

for that.

What does Devon look like at this time of year? In some parts of

Norfolk it looks like a picture postcard when it's frosty.

Nina, So many that have had colon cancer can tell you that their

sympthoms have all been different. So you cannot tell what it is by

the sympthoms. Please try to calm down and put some faith in God that

this might just be something minor. Ingrid

Nina,

I can personally tell you from experience that the people in here

are like my second family. Do not be afraid to ask questions as one

of the reasons for this board is so that people can become informed.

I don't know where I would be without the support and information

that everyone has given me here.

Dear Lydia.

Please don't give it a second thought. Having the internet for

information and support groups is wonderful, but I know only too well

that out there there are some very sick people, such as you have

described above, that seek to distress and even terrorise certain

people for their own twisted entertainment. I am so sorry that you

have been one of the unlucky chosen ones for them to inflict their

poison onto.

In my short time perusing the posts it has become obvious that here

on this board you have many good, decent and well-balanced people

from whom to gain support and understanding whenever you need it.

I hope you will allow them to keep you strong when others let you

down.

I was reluctant to post at first, not knowing whether or not I

actually had a disease to be concerned about. I need not have

worried, as certain people not only made me welcome, but reassured me

and offered me hope even if the worst came to the worst and I was

diagnosed with a malignancy. To everyone who responded, I thank you

from the bottom of my heart. You have been a gift. Please do not

hesitate to contact me at any time, for anything.

So now onto my colonoscopy today. It turned out to be completely

clear. I have a nasty case of spastic colon and irritable bowel

syndrome, but nothing like the kind of horrors that most of you have

to contend with.

As I said above, if there is anyway in which I can be of help to

anyone, please do not hesitate to email me.

Best of luck and love to all of you.
