Guest guest
Here are two studies that support use of luteolin for neuroinflammation. (see below) . The third study links microglia activation to psychiatric illness. J Nutr. 2010 Oct;140(10):1892-8. doi: 10.3945/jn.110.123273. Epub 2010 Aug 4. Luteolin inhibits microglia and alters hippocampal-dependent spatial working memory in aged mice. Jang S, Dilger RN, RW. Source Division of Nutritional Sciences, University of Illinois, Urbana, IL 61801, USA. Abstract A dysregulated overexpression of inflammatory mediators by microglia may facilitate cognitive aging and neurodegeneration. Considerable evidence suggests the flavonoid luteolin has antiinflammatory effects, but its ability to inhibit microglia, reduce inflammatory mediators, and improve hippocampal-dependent learning and memory in aged mice is unknown. In initial studies, pretreatment of BV-2 microglia with luteolin inhibited the induction of inflammatory genes and the release of inflammatory mediators after lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulation. Supernatants from LPS-stimulated microglia caused discernible death in Neuro.2a cells. However, treating microglia with luteolin prior to LPS reduced neuronal cell death caused by conditioned supernatants, indicating luteolin was neuroprotective. In subsequent studies, adult (3-6 mo) and aged (22-24 mo) mice were fed control or luteolin (20 mg/d)-supplemented diet for 4 wk and spatial working memory was assessed as were several inflammatory markers in the hippocampus. Aged mice fed control diet exhibited deficits in spatial working memory and expression of inflammatory markers in the hippocampus indicative of increased microglial cell activity. Luteolin consumption improved spatial working memory and restored expression of inflammatory markers in the hippocampus compared with that of young adults. Luteolin did not affect either spatial working memory or inflammatory markers in young adults. Taken together, the current findings suggest dietary luteolin enhanced spatial working memory by mitigating microglial-associated inflammation in the hippocampus. Therefore, luteolin consumption may be beneficial in preventing or treating conditions involving increased microglial cell activity and inflammation. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20685893 ======================================================================== Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A. 2008 May 27;105(21):7534-9. doi: 10.1073/pnas.0802865105. Epub 2008 May 19. Luteolin reduces IL-6 production in microglia by inhibiting JNK phosphorylation and activation of AP-1. Jang S, Kelley KW, RW. Source Division of Nutritional Sciences, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 1207 West Drive, Urbana, IL 61801, USA. Abstract Luteolin, a flavonoid found in high concentrations in celery and green pepper, has been shown to reduce production of proinflammatory mediators in LPS-stimulated macrophages, fibroblasts, and intestinal epithelial cells. Because excessive production of proinflammatory cytokines by activated brain microglia can cause behavioral pathology and neurodegeneration, we sought to determine whether luteolin also regulates microglial cell production of a prototypic inflammatory cytokine, IL-6. Pretreatment of primary murine microlgia and BV-2 microglial cells with luteolin inhibited LPS-stimulated IL-6 production at both the mRNA and protein levels. To determine how luteolin inhibited IL-6 production in microglia, EMSAs were performed to establish the effects of luteolin on LPS-induced binding of transcription factors to the NF-kappaB and activator protein-1 (AP-1) sites on the IL-6 promoter. Whereas luteolin had no effect on the LPS-induced increase in NF-kappaB DNA binding activity, it markedly reduced AP-1 transcription factor binding activity. Consistent with this finding, luteolin did not inhibit LPS-induced degradation of IkappaB-alpha but inhibited JNK phosphorylation. To determine whether luteolin might have similar effects in vivo, mice were provided drinking water supplemented with luteolin for 21 days and then they were injected i.p. with LPS. Luteolin consumption reduced LPS-induced IL-6 in plasma 4 h after injection. Furthermore, luteolin decreased the induction of IL-6 mRNA by LPS in hippocampus but not in the cortex or cerebellum. Taken together, these data suggest luteolin inhibits LPS-induced IL-6 production in the brain by inhibiting the JNK signaling pathway and activation of AP-1 in microglia. Thus, luteolin may be useful for mitigating neuroinflammation. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18490655 ======================================================================== Neurosci Lett. 1999 Aug 20;271(2):126-8. Evidence for activation of microglia in patients with psychiatric illnesses. Bayer TA, Buslei R, Havas L, Falkai P. Source Department of Psychiatry, University of Bonn Medical Center, Germany. bayer@... Abstract Activation of microglia/macrophages is a key event in response to pathological changes in the CNS. HLA-DR is a valuable immunohistochemical marker that specifically reacts with activated microglia cells. In order to elucidate a potential role of microgliosis in severe psychiatric illnesses, post-mortem frontal cortex and hippocampus of patients with schizophrenia (n = 14) and affective disorder (n = 6) and control specimens (n = 13) were studied. Additionally Alzheimer's disease cases (n = 8) were included as a human model system with typical neurodegenerative alterations and microglia activation. All patient groups revealed subjects with abundant microglia immunostaining (schizophrenia, three patients; affective disorder, one patient; Alzheimer's disease, four patients) in both gray and white matter. This finding provides evidence for distinct neuropathological changes in brains of patients with schizophrenia and affective disorder. The activation of microglia cells, which represent a major part of the brain immune response, may help to unravel the pathophysiological processes in severe psychiatric illnesses. Guest guest
Hi everyone, I don't know if it is the best for inflammation, but I will say that we started Enhansa with my son in mid-December. I started with 150mg and noticed minor improvements by day two. I increased his dose to 300mg and within a week (on Christmas exactly) he discovered his pinkie. Sounds small, but a big issue for my son is fine motor control/sensitivity and when you would ask him to show his pinkie, he would show his pointer. On Christmas, he asked for juice verbally and signing it with the right finger!! This was our first wow in a while. It was also at this time that he began answering yes/no questions consistently. Our second big wow in a while. We'd seen this once with AC chelation (we're on round 66 or so) and lots of ABA, but it went away as improvements often come and go for us before they stick with chelation. Well, on Enhansa my son answers yes and no questions consistently and has for a couple of weeks. We look forward to moving him up to 750mg per day spaced through out. Inflammation is clearly a part of our short term solution. It would be great if people continued to chime in with what has helped them for brain inflammation. Cod Liver Oil never helped us. I'm intrigued by Lutimax and will research it further. Guest guest
And we don't use it. He tests weak for it. I never knew why. I've been reading that Vitamin A (Omega 3 Fish oil) or Palmitate (sp?) which is derived from coconut oil are also good for brain function. Just thought I'd throw that in so you can discuss it with your doc. good luck, This simply means "the brain is the root cause in autism" as 85% of the brain are glial cells - the question is what is causing the symptoms To: stopcallingitautism ; stopcallingitautismfordoctors ; GFCFKids ; mb12valtrex From: scia@... Guest guest
twice I have thought of Enhansa and somehow end up not going ahead wth it I do not remember why.....Sent from my iPhone Hi everyone, I don't know if it is the best for inflammation, but I will say that we started Enhansa with my son in mid-December.
