Hi is, Thanks for the info. How much zink are you supplementing daily? I too have

noticed an increase in chewing with DS (he weighs 50 lbs) since I stopped supplementing 20 mgs per day about 2 months ago, but even with that amount of zink, my son would mouth things, just not as much as he has been doing in the past few weeks :o(Thanks for your info!!!Trixie To: mb12valtrex Sent: Monday, January 14, 2013 12:22 AM Subject: Re: Chewing on sleeves and stimming

Hi everyone,

Sorry I have not been on the forum regularly. Just finally got a chance to check messages. Wanted to share that I also believe that zinc plays a big part in this. I had taken my son off zinc about 6 months ago and he started mouthing objects as well as chewing on his jacket and picking food particles or other small objects from floor and chewing them. I checked his zinc/copper ratio and it is 0.6 when it should be at least above 0.8 Now I have started zinc about a week and a half ago and it is already a little better. Another symptom that comes with zinc deficiency is gagging for my kid.

Also, iron deficiency can play a part in it also. My son has low normal iron stores and I need to work on getting it better. Another cause of excessive mouthing in my kid is yeast flare. But low zinc/copper ration is the most important one.
