Guest guest
After trying several formulations from different brands at different doses, we've finally got something that works: Pure Encapsulations oral melatonin drops that we get from Lee Silsby. It has a very slight taste and my son is out within an hour, and now has a regular bedtime for the first time in his life. We also use 1mg...my so goes from running around to asleep in half hour to 45 min. Guest guest
, my son is on 3 mg and that is the dose that our first dan started a couple years ago. My son does wake up at night and once he wakes up, he won't go back to sleep. Do you or anyone else has any idea about the max dose that has been used by children on the spectrum? Because if I give him again, he will get a total of 6 mg. Has anyone tried to reduce the melatonin dose to 1 mg after using a higher dose for a while? Guest guest
We use the SR /CR types of melatonin. These are the ‘slow release’ where it will help to stay asleep or fall back to sleep easily. Kirkman has a brand of 2.5 mg – remember that you are not getting that all at once. , #3493Anti-Aging Skincare and Beauty Consultant with Beauty Societywww.mybeautysociety.com/jamiedavis

Guest guest
is One option for you could be slow release melatonin... However we can't use these because your child must be able to swallow a capsule. I would decrease the dosage from 3 milligrams to 1 milligram and see if you still get the same benefit... That is what we did and I noticed it was working still the same. Our nutrition actually told me that if you give too much melatonin at once it can actually cause nightmares and night waking. She also told me that it is safe to dose again so I would back off and see if you still get him to go to sleep with 1 milligram And then dose it again if he needs it when he wakes up. Guest guest
It does. You CAN NOT crush slow release. That destroys what makes them slow release. * * * Cheryl * * * ~ Antiviral Therapy 101~~ Make a biomed book ~~ gryffinstail.wordpress.com ~~ @Gryffins_Tail ~ Oh...great. thank you... my nutritionist told me that if the pill was crushed it would slow release anymore... - Kirkman labs has a slow release melatonin tab which could be crushed and put into juice or applesauce. Guest guest
Thanks everyone for melatonin suggestions. I will try making these changes. I get sleep issues on an off but mostly melatonin has been good. The problem is once my son wakes up, he cannot go back to sleep despite trying. Sustained release is a good idea. Thanks is > >> > > >> > > ** > >> > > > >> > > > >> > > My doctor prescribed melatonin. Guest guest
is I feel for you because I feel like you are talking about my son... not sure how old your son is but our sleep issues also go on and off In my houseand and when my son wakes up he will be up for a few hours. if he can take a pill definitely give him the slow release.... our doctor said that it is very hard for kids on the spectrum to re regulate their bodies once they wake up! Good luck Thanks everyone for melatonin suggestions. I will try making these changes. I get sleep issues on an off but mostly melatonin has been good. Guest guest
We crush the Kirkmans slow release 2.5 all the time and its fine, it's a simple tablet though I would not assume the same across the board. Depends on the form because other products need to stay in tact especially capsules with little beads in them. > > It does. You CAN NOT crush slow release. Guest guest
It's fine because it's still melatonin. But it's not slow release once you crush it. If he's sleeping through the night on it, it isn't because of the melatonin being slow release. It's says right on Kirkman's page that you can't crush the pill and maintain slow release. Not everyone needs slow release. My son has never needed slow release. If he wakes up in the middle of the night, it's because of yeast. Treat the yeast and he sleeps through. * * * Cheryl * * * ~ Antiviral Therapy 101~~ Make a biomed book ~~ gryffinstail.wordpress.com ~~ @Gryffins_Tail ~ We crush the Kirkmans slow release 2.5 all the time and its fine, it's a simple tablet though I would not assume the same across the board.
