Guest guest
Hi We have started MB 12 shots for my ds (2.9 yo, 28 lbs). We are doing it as per Dr Neubrander protocol and giving the shots every 3rd day. Everything was fine till the 2nd shot but from 3rd shot onwards, he has become super hyper active and also showing kind of obsessive behaviour with certain things. He is also getting angry and having very frequent melt downs/crying. Do you have any idea if its normal with kids to have increased hyper activity with MB 12 shots ? Also please let me know what I can do to help him calm down. Best regards Amit Sent from my iPad

It's very important.http://www.tacanow.org/family-resources/methyl-b12-a-treatment-for-asd-with-methylation-issues/Call the doctor, yes. But if the side effects are tolerable, stick with the shots for the first 6 weeks to see if your child is a responder. Sometimes the child gets worse in the first weeks until get better. Guest guest
This is an interesting thread. When we started B12, we did not see any effects every 3rd day, our DAN told us to increase it to every 2 days, then nothing for a while until we increased it to every night and we give the shots. Since then, we have verbals since we were nonverbal for a long time. On the other side, it is interesting that B vitamins increase Yeast. OUr son does have an overgrowth in yeast and we are treating it with Antifungal off and on but regularly on Olive Leaf (we have heard great things about it) we give it every 4 hours followed by activated charcoal two hours later. Slow improvements but now I am doubting the B vitamins and thinking what if we take him off B vitamins to stop feeding yeast and off Olive Leaf. He does eat very healthy and on this diet GFCFSFCF....He continues to demonstrate overstimming behaviors and chewing on his clothes. Any feedback to shed on this insight is greatly appreciative! > > Hi > > We have started MB 12 shots for my ds (2.9 yo, 28 lbs). Guest guest
To my knowledge the B vitamins will give problems only if they have been derived from yeast. Guest guest
If the child has MTHF a genetic mutation, he will be unable to use the mb12 since 5mthf is required to adequately use it. have ur doc check him for mthf or try adding it- start with a sprinkle and slowly increase to about 1000mcg. some docs do high doses of the mthf supplement but it is only appropriate for those with folate deficiency. 5mthf is the active form of folic acid. Check out MTHF Dr Ben on youtube for explanation of this genetic mutation. Also there are other mutations which are tested by Dr Amy Yasko which indicate wether methyl b12 is tolerated or not. in many cases Hydroxy b12 may be a better fit for the child. But these are things the DAN doc should be checking. Good luck with your quest for recovery. It is a long road but if you stick with it and have a great biomed doc your child will do great! If there's yeast eliminate added sugar completely. Diet is most important piece of biomed so if he is not eating well seek out a feeding therapist and dietitian (experienced in biomed) to help you improve the diet. You can give all the antifungals you want but if there's sugar in the diet it will never go away. Hugs! Nutramom (Carla).
Guest guest
HiThanks to all of you for your kind guidance. We are also observing that after starting mb12 shots, my son has got increased sensory issues in his hands. he is watching his hands all the times ( as if thinking to what to do with his hands) and wants to feel something like beads or marbles in his hands. This is something new which has come after mb12. I have also read through Dr Neubrander's site and understand that some of the positive negatives are expected when we start these shots. However I have couple of doubts :1. How do we know that the reactions what we see are actually a passing phase or some allergy/inability to handle MB12.2. What supplements/ therapies can be given to reduce this hyperactivity and sensory issues. Thanks to all of you wonderful people helping each other to sail through this journey.Best regardsAmitSent from my iPad When I started giving my son MB12 shots he was very hyper for 3 weeks. Guest guest
It is very normal for your child to experience increased energy levels upon starting MB12, and it's a good sign that it is having an effect in his body. Some of the best responders display this--my son is one of them. We pulled our hair out for about a month, but eventually his energy levels returned to normal. In the meantime, MB12 has been a huge intervention for us, and my son is now recovered; he is 4 1/2 and has been on MB12 for 2 1/2 years. I would give it more time, and I also would not give other things to try and force him to calm down. It is tempting, but if you see gains, you will then not be sure what caused the gains because you were doing more than one new thing. Try and hang in there, and he should calm down on his own soon. What supplements/ therapies can be given to reduce this hyperactivity and sensory issues. Thanks to all of you wonderful people helping each other to sail through this journey.Best regardsAmitSent from my iPad When I started giving my son MB12 shots he was very hyper for 3 weeks. Loosing temper every now and had sleep issues. But all these symptoms disappeared after 3 weeks. His speech has improved a lot after the shots. So hang in there...I think it's normal.Sent from my iPad There is also the problem with genetic mutations that cannot handle methyl supplements. He may be one of those kids...I am having a mind blank at the moment but I think it is the CBS mutation kids. Correct me if I a wrong someone! My daughter cannot tolerate mb12 but does well with hydroxy b12. Sent from my iPhone Could also be yeast. B vitamins tend to increase yeast. Sent from my iPhone Amit,Did you read this? It's very important.http://www.tacanow.org/family-resources/methyl-b12-a-treatment-for-asd-with-methylation-issues/ Call the doctor, yes. But if the side effects are tolerable, stick with the shots for the first 6 weeks to see if your child is a responder. Sometimes the child gets worse in the first weeks until get better. The side effects tend to go away.

Thanks for your motivating advise.Best regardsAmitSent from my iPad Best not give him anything. If the side effects are tolerable, keep going it will get better. Something is going on. He may be a responder.did you add folinic acid? If so I would take if off for a while and add latter. Methyl B12 has been our miracle so far.Good luck!
