Guest guest
ph, Sorry that you didn't get a response here. You can learn a lot from Cheryl's blog if you google antiviral 101. I have been reading about valtrex but I am not completely sure of what to expect. I can just tell you why I started valtrex. My son had his first regression after roseola infection. He had a lot of allergies and immune dysfunction. He was found to have IgM against endothelial cells in his brain. He has a lot of sensory issues, visual stimming. I did viral titers but not sure how significant they are. My son had roseola and has elevated titers. If you ask any infectious disease docs, they would tell you that the titers may remain elevated for a long time even after an infection. My son was also found to have elevated CMV titers and that is a sign of concern as valtrex has no efficacy against CMV. I decided to use valtrex as my son has elevated HHV6 titers and valtrex does have some efficacy against it. Also their maybe some unidentified virus in our kids that gets controlled by valtrex. My son has been on valtrex for 2 months. The improvements I have seen include better social and fine motor skills. But we are going crazy with yeast flares every couple of weeks. I may have to switch the antifungal. Is your child getting an antifungal(systemic). If not then may be that needs to be addressed. I have not seen the magical results from valtrex that I have read on Stan Kurtz site but then I was using generic valacyclovir. Not sure if this is the reason. I will use the branded valtrex now and see if it makes any difference. Cheryl and others might be able to answer your question about whether you should continue it any longer or not. I also noticed that your child is the same as my son and is taking 2000 mg a day. In my opinion, it is an excessive dose. Most of us are using a max of 500 mg 3x daily dose. As per my dan, even 500 3x daily is too much for my sensitive kid and he doesn't want him to receive more than 1000 mg a day. I am not sure if I answered all your questions or not but try visiting: stankurtz.com http://gryffinstail.wordpress.com/ Sorry couldn't help much. Good luck is > > > > Hi all, > > > > I have some basic questions about Valtrex treatment in children with > > autism: > > > > 1- What symptoms or blood tests would suggest that Valtrex treatment could be effective > > 2-What improvements we can expect from Valtrex? > > 3-What are the signs of efficacy of Valtrex treatment? Guest guest
Hi is, Thanks for your comments. Her CMV IgG has decreased from 11.4 to 8.3 but her HHV 6 IgG has INCREASED from 6.1 before the treatment to 34.9 five months after Valtrex treatment! I'm wondering if that's a good or bad sign! She has good gross and fine motor skills. I'll check out the two websites you suggested.
