Guest guest
Hi, all. I am generally a lurker, but I do have a question. I am dealing with a 3 year old apraxic son who despite a year and a half of DAN! and a year and a half of 5x a week O/T and SLP services still can't do much more than label (and usually you have to use your imagination to decide what the garbled words mean). Is there any hope for a kid like this to become a competent communicator in several languages, or are severaly apraxic kids going to be limited by their disability to one language, and that not very clear? Have I been wasting my time reading to him in foreign languages and showing him foreign language cartoon CDs? What is the future, in a globalized economy, for someone like my son, who may be incapable of learning his own, much less someone else's, language? My son's therapists all claim that he will be understandable by the time first grade rolls around and that he is not " challenged " intellectually, but no one will speak to me about whether my son will ever follow my footsteps and revel in other languages and other cultures. It seems a pity. Thanks for any insight, etc. CanAmTJMom
