Guest guest
Hello new friends, I have been lingering for awhile, but this is my first post and I have a doozy - I was " cleared " to try and get pregnant recently (August) which was 16 mos after WLS and 6 weeks after my hernia repair. I have been stable at the same weight (from 282 down to 132) for 7 months now. My labs are done every 2 months and always look great, except for occasional low iron levels. I have been ovulating regularly for at least a year. We have been trying to get preggoes the last 3 months without success. Now I know this isn't a long time, but last time I got pregnant (before wls) it took one try - which was planned - and BOOM! pregnant as expected. Right now, I know almost exactly when I ovulate and can nearly set a watch to my cycle. I completely understand timing and how to increase my chances of getting pregnant during ovulation time. MY QUESTION: Before I start worrying about fertility and such, does anyone know if there are any WLS-related issues that can prevent or make conception difficult? According to my doctors I am in fine shape - including " woman " stuff, too. Should I be looking for some strange anomaly that only happens to WLS women? Should my husband be checked? Or am I getting too concerned too early? BTW - I am 33 years old. Everything I've read over the last 2 years points to people getting pregnant RATHER EASILY post-WLS. It was easy for me when I was heavy, but now, no luck. I think it seems longer than 3 months for me because I had WLS to become healthy for the next pregnancy (last one was life or death for me and baby!) and have been waiting all this time to even TRY and get pregnant! Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks! t RNY 4/8/03 282/140/
Guest guest
t, I know how you feel. I am 13 mos PO and have been trying for a few months. I too got preggers easy pre WLS and had an uneventful pregnancy. It seems to me that after surgery my body just doesn't want to do what it is supposed to do. My OB is perplexed and says that after loosing about 125lbs, that I should have been pregnant by now. He wanted me to start Clomid cycles in October. I haven't started that yet. I went on vacation, started a new job and moved into a new house in October. My hubby and I have decided we are going to wait until after the holidays to start the Clomid. We are just laying low and if it happens then it happens. I have been using the OPKs and they are saying that I am ovulating. We shall see what happens. I wish you all the best of luck TTC. Guest guest
t, I think that the Clomid would help to make sure that I am producing good follicles and eggs and to help with making sure that I am ovulating at a specific time. My periods have ranged anywhere from 21-35 days. Bobbie St. Louis
Guest guest
Good info...maybe I should keep this in mind if a couple more months goes by and we don't get pregnant. I've recently read that if a couple had a child previously, and now cannot conceive for at least six months, they have fertility problems. I guess I'm almost there! Thanks!
